Chapter 3

After I'd cried all the water out of my body, I walked out of the hospital's automatic doors. I felt the cool wind hit my face as I stepped into the foyer, instantly drying my red, tear-stained face. I walked towards some bricks and sat down. I watched the dark clouds roll by. A storm was coming. We were in the middle of summer...and a freaking storm was coming. This is turning out to be an insane day. Biiing! I heard a noise come from my shorts. I'd forgotten I still had Tyler's phone in my pocket. I took it out and saw one new message. I unlocked it and went to the messages.

"Freddyyy" said the contact number. Freddy is Tyler's horny best friend.

"Mate u gotta tell her" is all it said. I tried scrolling up to see what they were talking about, but he must've deleted the conversation before it, leaving me with no clue who, or what they were talking about. Tell who? Renee? To break up with her? Had he not already? Arghh! I went back to his messages and saw my name underneath Freddy's.

"Abbey ;)" said the contact. The first message I sent to him when he drove off was at 4:47pm:

"Ty i know ur mad. Please come back home. Ur angry and upset"

Then at 4:50pm:

"U didn't give me a chance to expln"

Then the last message was at 4:55pm

"i care bout u so much, i'll be here for u when u've cooled off" I went back to the other messages and expected to see Renee next but it was his mum, then his client Avery, his brother Dylan and some of his other friends. In fact, Renee was at the very end of his list. I clicked on their messages and scrolled up to the very top. There was no important messages that caught my eye. They didn't text much which made me wonder how serious their relationship was. Maybe they talked on the phone more. But now that I think about it, Tyler never talked a lot about Renee as much as he did about his last girlfriend. He wouldn't shut up about her. Lydia, her name was. How could I forget. I would ask one question about her and he would go on for what felt like hours! But with Renee, he would answer and then change the subject. I shook the thought out of my head and sighed at his and Renee's pathertic conversation. I got out of his messages and went into his phone calls. The first number on the recents list was me. Then Renee. It said she had called at 4:49pm. That was only a couple of minutes after he stormed out. I scrolled down his log and saw another call from Renne 5 days ago. I found it weird how the only time he contacted Renee was 5 days ago. I stared at the screen for a long while before I sighed and placed the phone back in my pocket. I closed my eyes, trying to clear my mind.

"Uh, excuse me? Are you alright miss?" a deep voice said. 5 minutes. Can I not have 5 minutes of just silence? I opened my eyes and saw a tall blonde man with light blue eyes, almost grey. He wore a black t-shirt and light blue mesh shorts.

"...Yes?" I managed to say.

"Was that a question?" he chuckled lightly. I laughed.

"Sorry, yeah I'm okay," Tyler popped into my mind. The stranger looked at me unsure. I let out a sigh. "Not exactly I suppose" his grey eyes softened and he sat down next to me. His black t-shirt was tight around his biceps, I re-averted my eyes back to his face. He had a broad jaw and thin pink lips. He had tiny freckles dotting his nose and small dimples when he smiled.

"It is a hospital. I wouldn't expect you feeling happy. It's not exaactly a great place to be" he told me, looking me dead-set in the eyes. I nodded in agreement.

"It's definitely not" I said, feeling a bubbly feeling inside of me, as he stared into my eyes. I looked away, not able to hold his gaze any longer, almost scared he would see right through me.

"What are you in for?" he asked. I hesitated before speaking.

"My best friend was in a car accident. He's in a coma and I just found out there's a possibility he might not wake up," I muttered almost too comfortably. Saying it aloud made a lump in my throat. "You?"

"My sister has been diognosed with a brain tumor" he answered. I looked at him solemnly. He seemed so strong, I'd never expect something like that. I bowed my head, not sure what to say to that.

"You're doing well it seems"

"I need to be strong for her" his voice cracked. I thought for a minute.

"But who's gonna be strong for you?" I thought aloud. He looked at me, his blue flecked eyes glassy. He shrugged giving me a helpless smile. I placed my hand on his.

"I'm Abbey" I introduced. He smiled a warm smile, showing off his cute little dimples.

"William, but you can call me Will" he told me. I smiled back. Before I had a chance to make conversation with him, an older man's voice interrrupted.

"William?!" Will's head shot up, looking around for the voice. I glanced over to who he was looking at and saw a tall older man in about his late 40's with dark blonde hair, gesuturing Will to come back into the hospital. Will nodded and stood up. I stood up after him.

"Sorry, I hoped we could talk more" Will apologised.

"It's fine, I might catch you around" I said in a dissapointed voice. He nodded and walked back towards the double doors. I pulled out Tyler's phone again, switching it between my hands nervously. I quickly opened his messages and sent the picture of the dinner a couple weeks ago to myself and locked it. I decided to go back to Tyler's room and talk to his parents, when someone tapped me on the back. I turned around and saw Renee's short bright red hair in front of my eyes. I winced as how bright it was. She must've re-dyded it recently. Her dark brown eyes pierced what felt like my soul. She narrowed them and put a hand on her hip.

"What did you tell him?!" she demanded.

"Nice to see you too Renee" I said sarcastically.

"Answer the question"

"I told him you cheated on him and he freaked" I said.

"What did they say about his condition?" she asked. I noticed a bit of concern in her voice. That'd be a first.

"He's in a coma. There's a chance he might not wake up and if he does, he won't remember much" I spoke, my words shaky. She furrowed her brows and pushed pass me, knocking Tyler's phone out of my hands. She turned back on her heel and faced me.

"What is that? Is that Tyler's phone?" she gasped. I shut my eyes tight, pissed I just did that. I got up and she snatched the phone back out of my hands.

"If he doesn't remember, there's no way I'm gonna let him!" She snarled.

"Why is it so bad he remembers?" I asked her forcefully. She smirked and walked into the hospital, leaving me standing there wondering what the heck she was hiding.
