Chapter 7 - The Ball

After having spent one and a half hours reading the history book we had finally made it through the first 1000 years. I wish I could say I hated it but not only was the history fairly interesting but I was stuck in a room with Orion.

"So what's the name of our first king and Queen?" Orion quizzes me

"The first King was King Francis and his wife the Queen was Mabel," I reply confidently

"Ok, now who was King Francis's successor and who did they marry?"

"His son King Leopolde succeeded him and he married Fiona, who was a Queen Mabels best friends daughter. King Francis also had 2 other children, Elizabeth and John"

"I'm impressed Etheral. You learn pretty quickly. But here's a tricky one," he teases

"Bring it on!" I reply

"Ok Princess, what was the name of the first known dragon and who was he in relation to to King Francis? As well as what was his punishment for this relationship?" Orion challenges looking me in the eye

I look up at the ceiling before closing my eyes trying to think of the answer.

"The first known dragon was Philip and he was King Francis's illegitimate nephew due to an affair his brother John had with a servant girl. His punishment was to live in the dungeon for the rest of his life and act as a servant to King Francis as his mother had died in childbirth and he was seen as evil. Told you I knew it!"

"Well done Etheral. I believe that's all we need to study today. But as I said earlier you are welcome to use the library and you can read ahead or go over anything you don't understand,"

"Thank you but do you think we could go over why Queen Selene murdered all the dragons in the kingdom and what happened to King Henry?" I ask

"Of course, what don't you understand?"

"Well I just don't understand why Selene could murder nearly half of the Athenians when she loved Athena,"

"Well Etheral Selene wanted to protect her people and she believed that dragons were mutants but she allowed them to continue to live with the Athenians in peace as they had never caused any trouble and kept her people safe. But the moment she saw into the future and saw that a descendant of her bloodline who was a dragon would completely decimate Athena she decided she needed to save Athena and her people before it happened. So in order to do that she had every dragon killed and set a law that every child born in Athena had to be tested for the dragon gene to ensure it didn't continue in future generations." Explained Orion not taking his eyes off me

"Ok I think I get it better now. But what about King Henry? Where did he go?"

"We don't know where he went or even if he went somewhere. Many believe that he was murdered or kidnapped in protest to Selene's new laws. But we will never know for sure,"

"Don't you think it's weird that he just left the love of his life and his newborn child?" I question

"I don't think it's weird if he was taken away or murdered," Orion replies

"I think this is enough history for today. If I learn anymore my brain is going to explode,"

"It was a lot of information but we've still got another 1900 years to go through Etheral. But you'll be happy to know that tomorrow we won't be doing any history but rather a combat lesson,"

"Combat? A princess needs to learn combat!" I exclaim

"Yes, it is a very important skill. I will have personalized combat apparel sent to your room tomorrow morning. I expect for you to be changed in that gear for your lesson,"
