Chapter 5

"...I Lost myself forever."

~Alan Archibald~

The doors open again on the twentieth floor.

I am met by the familiar aura my floor portrays.

Cold, intimidating aura.

I walk over to east side of the floor and look beyond at the mesmerizing city from the crystal-clear , glass wall.

I see a cluster of buildings, a chaos of high and low structures.

A chaos, yet strangely ordered.

So far away, yet in my mere reach.

I always get what I want now.

No, not because I'm rich but because I'm worthy.

I made myself this. No one but me.

I worked my way from slums to success.

I found new habits, new thoughts, new rules.

Somewhere along the way,

I lost myself forever.

I became something else.

Something much more influential.

I smile to myself in content.

I could never get tired of this.

Ever.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts by the click of the elevator.

I turn back to see Harry, holding lots of files.

"Hey Alan, Sup?" He asks me casually.

Harry has been my friend since University. We both graduated together. We're quite close I guess.

I really don't know.

But what I do know is that, he's the best assistant anyone could ask for.

"The usual." I reply, dryly.

If you haven't guessed already.

He's the lame, fun one and I'm more on the sarcastic, intimidating side.

"Gosh, you're so boring. No wonder, you're single. No girls want you." He jokes.

We both know that's not true.

A girl would die to spend a night with me.

Literally.

Well, and let's just say, I don't want girls to die for me, so I've been with pretty much all the girls around here.

But I don't do relationships.

No point in them.

"True, now let's get down to work, lover boy." I tease.

"Hey, don't call me that Archibald." Harry says, getting annoyed. "Not cool, dude, not cool."

"But that's what you are, isn't it right? Lover boy."

"Screw you, Archibald." Harry says, shaking his head.

I laugh at his frustration.

Harry has a girlfriend, Maya and he's head over heels in love with her. I suspect she loves him too.

Their relationship is real cute.

And it's true.

Something we rarely catch these days.

"If you're quite done with laughing, we have serious projects here, boss. The deadline for Lana Shaw personal injury case brief is tomorrow and it's still pending. "

Harry informs me, sitting on one of the grey, comfy sofas and arranging the papers on the table, getting serious and right down to business.

"No surprise there." I comment, quickly scanning all the sheets of paper on the glass table top.
