Izel

I was watching August mess with his small curls.

"Aug, your hair looks fine - Can we go now?" I laughed.

"Aight, lets go - You sure it looks good?"

"Who are you trynna impress at school?" I squinted my eyes at him.

"No one, but I can't be lookin' bummy baybeh." He smiled.

"Whatever." I shook my head while laughing at his cockiness.

When we got to school, of
course, Jasmine and her clique were standing right in front of where August usually parks.

I felt him look over at me, and before he could say anything, I got out.

"Awe look, it's prince charming and his frog." One of Jasmines friends spoke.

I ignored her simply because that girl is built like a testicle.

"Hey cutie." Celeste came up to me and hugged me.

"Wassup." I smiled.

Celeste was glowing. Not because of her makeup or anything, but she seemed over joyed about something... or someone.

"I have a lot to tell you." She smiled.

"Well we don't have a lot of time, so talk fast."

"Over the weekend, Chris had took me to the lake - You know I love water, anyways, we went and he told me he loved me, Izel." She cheesed harder.

They only been dating for two seconds - Yet they're in love?

"Oh - Uhm, that's sweet." I gave her my best fake smile.

"Look, we can talk more after school - I have to get to class now." I walked away from her and went straight to class.

I walked in and saw August already at his seat with his headphones in.

When I took a seat, Marquez looked over at me and smiled.

Something was awfully weird about him.

All of us jumped when the teachers phone started ringing. It was a very atypical loud ringtone she had.

"You straight?" August asked me.

"I'm fine, already ready to go home." I giggled.

"Izel Baptiste?" Mrs.Wells scanned the classroom. "You're needed in the front office."

I groaned and got up.

"They suggested you bring your stuff." She smiled at me and hung the phone up.

I grabbed my bag and walked out of the class.

The halls were unusually quiet and things weren't feeling too well. I felt like something was about to happen,

I walked into the front office and I seen the devil himself.

My stepdad.

"Hey baby girl" He came up to me and hugged me tightly. "God, I've missed you! Where have you been?" He let me go.

He was putting up an act in front of the people that worked here.

"You ran away" He looked as if he was about to cry knowing good damn well he didn't care about me.

"Izel - Running away, as a sixteen year old, is counted as a crime. You could be locked up for this." My principal spoke.

I wiped a fallen tear and nodded my head so she'd know I was listening.

"Is it okay if I sign her out?" He asked.

"N-no, I have a lot of tests to take and I can't miss them."

"Sure you can - We can tell your teachers to hold those tests." The assistant principal spoke while letting him sign the sign out papers.

I could feel tears going down my cheeks and I couldn't hold them in.

No telling what he had planned to do to me when we got home.

August

We was now at lunch and Izel was no where to be found.

"Celeste, you seen Zel anywhere?" I sat in front of her.

"Nope, last time I talked to her was this morning." She bit into her subway sandwich.

I pulled out my phone and sent her a text.

She couldn't have left because she's not old enough to sign herself out.

"I'll see ya lata'." I grabbed my book bag and left the cafeteria.

I walked out to my car and tried to call her.

No answer.

I dialed Travis number and he answered on the first ring.

"Wassup playa'?"

"Yo, is Izel at the house?"

"Nah - She ain't at schoo'?"

"They had called ha up ta the front office and afta' dat I ain't seen ha no where."

"You think a family member came and signed ha out?"

I thought for a moment.

The only person that's 'family' ta her is ha stepdad.

I hung up on Travis and started my car up.
-
oooooo her stepdad about to get caught up.
