"Will you two be together to raise the baby?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Lillian's cheeks heated up more as she and Ryan looked at each other. They both opened their mouths, but nothing came out but long 'uh's'. Lillian didn't believe she needed to be with Ryan like 'that' to take care of their baby. Just as long as he came and saw the baby and helped support it, she should be fine.

Lillian looked back at her father, "I don't think we need to be together to take care of our baby, dad. Just as long as he comes and sees the baby and helps me, we'll be good. Just two friends having a baby together." she said, then wanting to slap herself for saying something as idiotic as that.

Awkward silence filled the room again and Lillian played with the button of her shirt.

"Do your parents know?" her dad asked.

"Um...no, not yet." Ryan said hesitantly. "But I will soon, I'm just trying to think of what to come up with to tell them."

"Well, it should be soon if Lillian wants to keep the baby." her mom said. "But I just want to let you both know, we're not built-in grandparents. Raising a baby is hard, even for adults who are ready. I want Lillian to finish school and get a good job but that's going to be hard if she has a baby. She's going to need you Ryan, you both made it together so you two have to work together."

Lillian ran her hand through her hair and nodded, "I know, mom. But I was thinking if I do keep it, cousin Joanna works for that day care service and maybe she can get me a discount for school and maybe grandma can take her for a few hours a couple of months after it's born so I can work to also help by getting a job."

"Well you're going to have to talk to them, Lillian." her mom said. "And when I say you, I mean you."

"I know," she said.

"Grandma Bell isn't going to be happy becoming a great-grandmother." her dad said, chuckling. "Making her feel older than she is."

Lillian and her mom joined, finding that true.

Feeling tired, Lillian leaned against the door of her house when she showed Ryan out. She placed her hands on her stomach and sighed, "Well, that went better than I thought it would." she said.

He nodded and licked his dry lips, "Hey Lil, you know, the more we actually talk about this, the more I feel confident about having it...like keeping him."

She couldn't help but smile, "I know what you mean." she said. "Does...does that mean you want to keep it?" she asked and he nodded. "You do realize it may sound easy but it's actually not. It's not like a cute little commercial, it's...hard, messy."

"I understand that." he said. "I have watched family members taking care of their babies, it's hard but if we're both here we can do it. You may not even have to pay for daycare because my mom's a stay at home mom and she would love to have something to do while we're at school. She loves children"

Lillian couldn't help but find not having to look for any good day care and not having to worry about paying a relaxing idea. "Really? That's great, Ryan."

"So, we're keeping him?" he asked.

Lillian looked down at her stomach and rubbed, "Yeah, I guess we are. Do you like that idea?" she asked her stomach in a baby voice. "We're keeping you, you're going to be with us."

Ryan chuckle and stepped forward, putting his hand on her stomach, "It's going to be okay, Lil."

He looked at her then and they smiled at each other. Lillian was happy and she was actually having faith that Ryan would be there. She knew it was going to be hard. Really hard! But she had babysat before and knew the routine. She knew she was going to have to wake up all hours of the night to feed him.

But she could do it, she just needed to have faith in herself. She never realized how much she doubted herself until now.

Looking at Ryan's eyes, they were warm and soft, it made her feel mushy. She imagined the guy she was in love with and being pregnant to actually be with her and this would be a time he would kiss her and tell her she was beautiful.

She was surprised when she felt his hand move up to her face and cupped it. Her whole body felt like it was warming up on fire and her cheeks blushed up. She kept wondering, is he going to kiss me? She was surprised at how much she liked the thought.

Well until his phone went off.

The nice and anxious moment was ruined when Ryan's phone went off and it was like water was splashed on them, waking them up.

Ryan dropped his hands and as he reached for his phone. He stepped back and turned around. He brought the phone up to his ear and cleared his throat, "Hey Jeanette." he said and Lillian's heart felt like it dropped.

She just forgot he was dating her best friend again. She felt terrible. She wanted her best friend's boyfriend to kiss her. She looked down at her feet as her hands played together.

"Uh, yeah, sure. I'll be over in five minutes." he said. "Yeah I love you, too."

He turned back around and Lillian looked back up at him, "Jean?" she asked, but she knew it was her.

He nodded, "Yeah, she wants me to come over. I'll see you Monday?"

She nodded, "Yeah, bye."

He nodded once and turned around, going over to his car and drove away.

Lillian went back inside and went up to her room. She didn't make any noises, but tears slid down her face. She hated being an emotional wreck.
