I Remember: 4

I remember when we arrived that I was not sure where we were, but I thought that it was beautiful. I got out of the car, and just looked around me. My dad began to walk to this tree near the beach, and then he stopped right under its shade. I followed, still mystified by the beauty of this place. I reached him, and we just stood in silence for a bit. The place was completely vacant. Not a soul in sight. I sat down to enjoy the breeze and play with the sand. He began,

"I used to come to this place all of the time." He sighed, and looked out on the water,

"To clear my head, and to just be alone. It was the one place where I was alone but not lonely...I got away from it all, right here." He looked at me, but he seemed to be looking through me, focusing on something miles away. Or years away. I turned away, watching the horizon again. I began to just think. The sound of the waves splashing onto the shore was so relaxing, and I found that I could clearly investigate my thoughts. Evaluate my situation. I didn't realize how confused I was until I had this moment of true solace to delve into my mind. His voice broke my stream of consciousness saying,

"This isn't the whole reason that I brought you here." When I turned to him, he was focused on me. He continued,

"This place holds a lot of memories, and I want to make more. Good ones. So, right here, right now, ask me anything, and I will answer. Tell me anything, and I will listen. It's about time that your voice is heard."
