But as in all legends, or at least most of them there was a heroine; A brave woman by the name of Sasha, which name means Defender of man kind. Sasha was a fierce, passionate young woman when she first encountered Death.
Death was enamoured with her, finding her personality most intriguing. Unlike others, she did not bow to his every whim, instead she stood up tall and proud, and bluntly told him no. Death, even though he was fascinated by this woman, would not stand for being humiliated by a mere girl. The punishment - Was death. They say he drew his sword, but she was faster. The two then engaged in an epic battle of which lasted, for some say days.
The legend goes that Sasha was able to defeat Death with her purity, and as a result Death was killed, or in some cases banished.
But legends are legends, that happened centuries ago. The fact that I even considered coming here was stupid. Ten minutes had passed since my arrival, and I grew impatient. I glanced over at the entrance and was able to see the faint outline of my friends, who were most likely there to make sure I didn't skip out on the dare. I rolled my eyes and straightened up.
"Evania, Valerie, I told you it's just a legend. Ten minutes is up, I'm coming out!" I yelled, and chuckled as the twin's heads spun towards me, pouting simultaneously. I chuckled and walked towards the exit, rubbing my now cold arms.
"Fine... You win this round Celeste." Valerie said, winking at me from the distance.
I frowned, in deep thought. It was mid way through summer, even at night it shouldn't be this cold. I noticed Evania and Valerie's concerned glances, and I smiled reassuringly. I was nearing the large, metallic gate when all of a sudden, it slammed shut. I blinked, and turned my suspicious glare towards Evania and Valerie.
"Guys, it's not funny, open the gate!" I yelled, and jogged the last remaining meters towards the gate and began tugging at it, only to find it almost stuck shut. It moved slightly, but I knew it wouldn't fully open. I glanced around the gate, only to find that Evania and Valerie had left. My eyes burned with anger, and I swore to myself I would get my revenge. As soon as I got out of here.
I relentlessly continued to pound at the gate to the point where my fingers were growing numb from the increasing cold. I shuffled towards the wall, and glanced at it hesitantly. It wasn't large, but was for some reason covered in barbed wire. I suspected it was there because of the teenagers who found coming to a grave yard fun. Not that I judge them, it's their choice after all.
I began shivering from the cold, and wrapped my jacket around me tighter, not that it would help. The thin piece of material was having no effect at all.
I glanced around the grave yard, hoping that there was an unlikely chance someone was there that could help me out.
I fumbled for my phone, and frowned at it's flashing red 'low battery; warning. I ignored it and desperately dialled my mothers number: She could help me.
I frowned, there was no signal. I sighed and put it away as it died not long after, and I found myself walking back towards the centre of the graveyard. I could make out a faint, almost invisible figure near the tree's, and hope filled me. I ran towards the figure, only to find when I had got there, the figure had disappeared. I heard a twig snap within the tree's that lead to the forest. It was a dangerous place in the day, and at night the place practically yelled 'Come kill me!'
But this person, was possibly my only chance of getting out of here before I froze to death. Literally.
I ran inside the forest without hesitation, blindly going in random directions. The cold was subsiding as I went deeper into the forest, perhaps that was a sign?
I could vaguely make out the figure again, lit up for a moment by the moonlight as it moved. It had a more masculine outline, yet moved with such grace. I pushed myself forward, running towards the figure. I stopped centimetres behind him.
"Hello?" I asked, and frowned when he didn't even move. I asked once more, yet received the same answer as last time: Silence.
I stood behind him for several minutes, waiting for any reaction. I wasn't going to give up, that just wasn't my nature. I think the man may have thought so too, because not long after he had turned around. His features were hard to make out in the dark, but I could see his pale skin tone, and hints of raven black hair that fell in front of his face. For some reason, part of me wanted to reach up and gently brush it away like a lovers caress.
Disgusted by myself, I pushed those feelings away, far far away. For a rather awkward moment, we simply stared at each other, sizing the other person up.
"It's rude to ignore people." I finally decided to comment, raising my eyebrow. I swore I saw a hint of a smile twitch across his face before his expressionless facade came back.
"Do forgive me, my lady." He said sarcastically, although there was something about it that made him seem older than he was.
"I have not formerly introduced my self. You mortals know me as Death." He said casually, eyes alight with mischief and a deeper emotion I was unable to decipher before my mouth dropped open, and black dots danced in front of my vision. I was falling into the dark abyss, and was vaguely aware of warm, comforting arms catching me before I faded fully into the darkness...
