“1…2…and  1 2 3 4…”

Electric piano, acoustic guitar and electric guitar were started playing by my band members.
When my turn came, I began to sing.

"You made me insecure,
Told me I wasn’t good enough.
But who are you to judge
When you’re a diamond in the rough?
I’m sure you got some things
You’d like to change about yourself.
But when it comes to me
I wouldn’t want to be anybody else.
Na na na na na na…”

My voice trailed off as I struggled to find the beat. Again, the lack of drums wasn’t helping.

Rocky looked at me and frowned. “What happened? Why did you stop singing, Jenni?”

I threw the microphone on the floor in a fit of anger and crossed my arms. “This sucks,” I mumbled. “We’re making such an awesome song sound lame. We need drums.”

“Hmm,” hummed the forever happy-go-lucky Lola while fixing her glasses.“Maybe we should change the song?”

“No!” I screamed. “We’ve been changing our song for the past three days. I don’t think I can remember anymore lyrics!” Rolling my eyes, I walked past them and sat down on the sofa.
“It’s best if we all give up this competition, we’re going to lose anyway.”

John shook his head quickly and slammed the table. “No way, Jenni. Don’t even think of quitting. Our college’s reputation depends on us, we can’t just walk away like that.”

“Yeah,” Lola agreed sheepishly while playing with her hair, a smile creeping onto her face. “John is right – as always.” She added dreamily.

I scoffed. “I’d be an idiot to believe your words. You’re blinded by love, my friend. John isn’t always right.”

Rocky stood up from the tool and came over to the sofa to sit next to me. “Yeah guys, please stop flirting with one another. You couple should just get a room already!” he joked and mimicked a gagging motion.

“No, no, no, no!” John protested. “We’re not a couple.”

I couldn’t resist teasing him and winked, “Not now, but soon…”

John rolled his eyes. “Jenni can you please be serious about the competition?"

“Why do I have to be the one thinking of all the solutions?” I whined. “Why can’t you guys think of one instead?”

“Because you always come up with the best ideas,” said Rocky softly. I knew that my 'dear' friend was just oiling me by praising me.

I said rolling my eyes, "I really have no idea how we can win this competition without a drummer. This band isn't even completed without a drum."

"I don't know anybody who play the drums,” Rocky said.

"And my cousin plays drum but he is not from our college. So he can't join us either," John said with disappointment in his voice.

I said, "And you told this to us ....ummm let me guess.... Almost 50 times."

"A...Actually 27 times," Lola said with her usual shy smile.

We three gazed at her. She said, "Yeah! I counted"

I starred at her for few seconds, Then shook my head.

Suddenly an idea hit me like a train moving at full speed and I jumped up. “IDEA!” I shouted at the top of my lungs.

After saying the word 'idea' loudly, I realized that I had uttered this word not only loudly, but it was also deafeningly startling. I looked around to survey the disaster I had caused: Rocky was in a position of almost falling onto the floor, Lola was standing straight, her eyes widened and bigger than usual, John was holding an empty bottle and he was absolutely drenched. I giggled.
