Basilisk mythology describes this "king of serpents" as a reptilian creature with sometimes rooster-like qualities who is famous for its ability to kill with a single glance. Like its bird-lizard cousin, the Cockatrice, basilisks are said to be born from a union of serpents and roosters. A person called was known to "pretty much" create basilisk mythology. He described the creature as a "serpent called the basilisk" of which "all who behold its eyes, fall dead upon the spot".
The basilisk is born from a chicken's egg that was hatched beneath a toad. The fangs of one of these creatures are deadly. A rooster's crow is fatal to the basilisk and if it sees its own reflection, which is deadly as well. The basilisk's size can vary, actually being very small every now and then, and everywhere it touches withers and dies
