Ch 100 (colin)- Closer Baby, Closer

Start from the beginning

"I had seen Stacy, Jake's sister shopping on Tuesday and she told me Anna was following Jake who is going to college in Colorado. It was why I came over to check to see what else Anna lied about."

Colin mentally filled in a few of the little details of Anna's story that was missing. He could tell that Nate did also.

"I think that Anna was freaked out about Jolene's death, moving, and all of the changes so she took the opportunity to follow a guy that made her feel pretty." Harmony said. Colin was about to say something to her, but she held her hand up to him. He waited as she went on.

"Yes, she did lie to me, but I got a message that she is on her way home." Harmony stated reading Colin's unvoiced question.

"Today Detective Kyle Mason showed up at my door." Harmony said. This made Colin stand straighter and could see on Nate's face that he had already received this news. Colin was now paying full attention.

"He happens to be Jake and Stacy's father. He told me that he knew Anna was at the bar and was one of the last people to see Jolene alive. He wants details of that night, you know, Anna's revision of what happened. He wants to rule her out as a suspect. He also said something about wanting to know if our family had been threatened or felt unsafe lately, as if someone were hunting us down and Anna might have been a target." Harmony finished.

Colin and Nate looked at each other for they knew nobody was after Anna. The fact that the detective was already poking around in their backyard told him he was close to Harmony on the lists of people to talk to. Only Anna was above him.

"I've tried to text Anna again today and told her to call me, that I was freaking out. She hasn't answered any of my messages nor phone calls. I don't know what else to do so I came here." Harmony said trying to hold back her tears.

"You did good. Though I am not at all happy about what Anna has been doing and the fact that she is too young to be at the bar for which she can get into trouble, I think it is time to get her home. I want her here quietly, so I can talk to her first. We are leaving early, and I want everyone ready. I'm going to pack the rest of her stuff today so when the detective shows up at my door Anna will have been here to tell me what has been going on. She is under eighteen so they can't talk to her without me present." Colin said to Harmony then tried to find out what leads the detective was following.

"Who does the detective think killed Jolene?" Colin asked and noticed Nate set himself in a stone stare and expression. Colin could feel that his insides were in turmoil. He wanted to hug his son and reassure him that they were going to get through this but Colin wasn't sure they were going to. He was feeling as much anxiety that he knew Nate was feeling.

"He didn't say, but if he was at my house they must still be looking. I think that is why he wants to talk to Anna. I was surprised when he asked if our family had received threats. I think he was just fishing but I tried not to say anything so I didn't screw anything up for Anna or get her accused of something she didn't do." Harmony said then looked away. Her action alerted Colin's senses, but he didn't ask what she was hiding because he knew she wouldn't have told him until she talked to Anna herself.

Tessa had popped into his head and the falsely accused Daryl Thieles. He looked at Harmony who was digging into another donut and avoided his eyes. He wondered if she had come across stories about Anna's mom. If Harmony knew that Tessa had been murdered, then she must have kept it from Anna. He knew for a fact that Anna would have hounded him about why he lied and demanded what the murder was about. Unless Anna found out only recently, Colin thought. His heart tightened harder feeling like he was losing his daughter as the minutes passed. Colin had always been worried Anna was going to look up her mother. He hoped Anna wasn't following Jake to Colorado to look up her mother's history even closer. This moving must have been too big of a shock. Was she running away? Was Harmony wrong? What should he do?
