CHAPTER 1

It was test day for the grade tens of Newberry high. It was the end of the year test. The big test. Everyone was scrambling to get to their place classroom. The test was first thing in the morning. After a few minutes everyone was seated in their classroom, waiting for the teacher to pass out the dreadful test. Not many people were very excited about this. Most people had more of an anxious or scared feeling, but of course, we've all been there and done that.

Everyone was loud and chatty except for one boy sitting in the back corner, with a pencil in his hand, sketching in a note book. His name was Asher Braidey.

Asher... well Asher was a unique 16 year old. He was fairly quiet and people didn't see to bother with him much. No one really talked to him or anything. But even despite all that, he was a very nice, kind and friendly person. Asher kind of had his own style that some people thought was kind of, well, different.

Asher wore black ripped skinny jeans, black and white converse shoes, a Black Veil Brides tee shirt, a black leather jacket with quite a few zippers and a bunch of band themed rubber bracelets on this wrists. Asher was about 5'10. He was sort of slim. But, he was quite strong. Asher had layered black hair that sort of covered his bright blue eyes. With snake bite piercings and a nose stud.

Asher looked out of the window. It was nice and sunny down on the soccer field and there was no wind and not a cloud to be seen. It was a lovely summer day. Or so it seemed.

Once the class started to calm down, the teacher started to pass out the tests. Out of the corner of his eye, Asher saw the teacher lay the test on his desk. Asher looked down at the eleven page test.

Asher wasn't a big fan of math class let alone math tests. But he knew he had to do it so he pulled his chair closer into the desk, took a deep breath and started the test.

Five minutes passed, then ten, then fifteen, then twenty. Asher felt something poke at his shoulder. He looked to his left to see Brett, his best friend (his only friend really).

Brett Simms was also quite unique. He wore black leather pants and lime green vans shoes and an Asking Alexandria shirt. Brett had a few piercings as well. He had small ear gauges with a silver rings above them. The also had a nose stud and a single lip stud. Brett was about 6'0 and he had quite an athletic build. Half of his head was shaved and the other half had long thick dark brown hair, and he had the most beautiful green eyes.

Asher turned his head slightly to the side and gave Brett sort of an awkward yet pissed off side glance.

"What?" Mouthed Asher looking annoyed.

" What is the answer to question nineteen?" Asked Brett quietly so no one other that Asher would hear.

Asher gave Brett a "seriously" look and Brett tilted his head slightly sideways.

"63.7" said Asher.

"Thanks man!" Said Brett as he wrote the answer down.

Asher rolled his eyes and smiled as he turned his head back around to finish his test.

But just as Asher's pencil touched the paper, there was very loud "BOOM". It echoed through the school for a few seconds. Everyone looked around, wondering about what the noise could have been.

Suddenly, there was a loud rumbling noise and everything started to shake.

The walls started to crumble and the big lights hanging from the ceiling came crashing down to the floor.

All of the student crawled up under their desks (since that's what you're supposed to do when there is an earthquake) while the school crumbled down around them.

Asher slid from his chair to under his desk, but before he got his head under the desk, a piece of ceiling tile fell down from the ceiling and hit Asher right above his eyebrow.

Once Asher got under the desk the held his hand to his forehead. Then he took his hand off and looked at it. He say blood, and he could feel it dripping down his face. Above his eyebrow stung a bit.

Asher looked up to see Brett crouching under his desk who was looking over at Asher consernly

"you ok?" Yelled Brett above the other screams.

"yeah!" Asher yelled back.

Luckily school was only on story, so only the ceiling pipes and ceiling tiles came down on them, not a full class of students, which would have been MUCH worse.

After about five seconds, the shaking stopped, and everyone peered out from wherever they had taken cover. People looked around, crying and scared (well of course they were scared).

The teacher tried to get everyone to calm down but so many people were hurt from the falling lights and ceiling tiles. It was hard to breath since there was so much dust in the air. It stunk really bad, like burnt rubber and cement dust. It was terrifying.

Asher slowly got up from under the desk and looked around. Brett also stood up slowly.

"What the hell is going on?"Asked  Brett trying to be calm, but it was obvious that he was panicking.

Asher just stood there looking around at all of the frightened people and the wreckage. Asher was terrified, no one knew what was happening. Asher was also wondering to himself about what was happening. An earthquake? An explosion? The end of the freaking word? he thought to himself as he looked around. Yeah, no one was quite to sure.

The teacher was still up at the front of the classroom, trying to get everyone to calm down. But all of a sudden, there was a very loud, high pitch scream.

Everyone covered their ears tightly and hung their heads down. Asher gritted his teeth at the sickening noise. The windows started to crack and then shattered. Like seriously, this was like a nails on the chalkboard screech, and it was really loud.

Is was a good thing that it only lasted about fifteen seconds.because any longer and Asher thought his head would explode.

Everyone looked up, still scared, still frightened, of course.

Asher stood up slowly, his head was spinning. Oh yeah, this is definitely the end of the world. Thought Asher looking around.

Asher slowly walked to the door, while no one was looking, he wanted to see what was going on outside, but he didn't want anyone to follow him, and he knew the teacher would probably stop him if she saw.

Asher stepped out of the doorway and looked up and down the hall. The lockers where tipped over (He always wondered if they where bolted to the wall or not) and the big school trophy case by the gym doors at the end of the hall was in pieces. The walls where cracked and some parts of the ceiling was hanging down. Dust filled the air and the water fountains where off the walls and pouring water out onto the floor.

Asher could hear kids and adults crying and talking. He kept walking down the hall. Glass, bits of walls and other stuff that got knocked onto the floor crunched under Asher's feet. He walked over the tipped over lockers and what not. He kept walking up to the main doors.

Asher walked up to the doors and slowly opened them, they creaked open since the hinges were damaged.

Asher stuck his head out the partly opened door and looked around the school yard.

And all he could see was disaster.
