As the Joker has said multiple times in the Batman movies, cartoons, and comics, "Why so serious?"  Just because you are writing a fantasy novel does not mean that humor has to be excluded.  Humor is surprisingly a great way to draw in an audience.  Although some critics might disagree, humor adds possible originality into the story.  With humor, you have even more freedom to write the story as you please.  Additionally, it is a strong way to make your audience feel good.  Just like the writing quality, the audience is an important part of a story.  One can't exist without the other.

That is why it baffles me comedy is seen as a big no in most novels.  Most authors think adding only a serious element is the way to make lasting stories.  To them comedy is like bad indigestion.  They avoid adding the stimulants at all in order to "write a quality novel".  This in itself is a strange cliché that to this day I still do not get.  If you want comedy, go right ahead and add it into your fantasy novel.  Just be sure to make the quality of the story great as well.  A strong example of a humor based book to look for inspiration from is the children's book series Captain Underpants.  Some of the jokes may not be funny to everyone, but it is a strong example of how to add comedy into a story.  Why do you think Dreamworks eventually made a movie adaptation for it?

Comedy also has inspired me as a writer in many ways.  The TV show series Total Drama remains one of my favorites alongside more serious ones such as Madoka Magica and Steven Universe.  It has strangely inspired me to look a cliché right in the face and try to dissect them to create stronger characters.
