This piece honest to god has zero dissonance anywhere. Which is uncharacteristic for Shostakovich because if you listen to any of his symphonies, they're full of clashes and dissonance. He actually used his music as a silent way of criticizing the Stalin Regime. This fugue is in a collection of preludes and fugues which are all full of dissonance, except this one. Shostakovich limited himself to only using the three notes in each chord to make the harmonies. And it is truly beautiful.
