BURIED IN MY OWN WRECKAGE

To climb up into the night, the cool, the misty night, and join heaven’s finery.

To soar into the sun, the sun, and be ten thousand times brighter than it.

To rise from the moment, unfazed and unscathed, like a drifting feather.

But

No, my legs are three-hundred pound weights,

My mind carries more burdensome thoughts than there are crayons in a crayon box,

And my heart is heavier than a millstone.

There will be no floating away,

There will be no ascent or progress,

There will be no frantic, desperate flight.

Bound, hands, feet, and head-

Like a mummy, wrapped head to toe in cares.
