Deciding if they were going to argue, I didn't want to be in the room.
"I'm going to go check on Marc." I declared, slipping out of the kitchen quickly.
Marc's room was dark when I walked in, the only light coming from the almost set sun shining through the window. I exhaled slowly, glad to have a minute alone to collect my thoughts. It had been a whirlwind of a day.
"As much as I love seeing beautiful girls in my bedroom, I don't think I know you. So how did you get in here, Bambi?"
Startled, I jumped abruptly and gasped, flicking the lights on.
"Marc?" I hurried towards the bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Is it customary wherever you're from to turn lights on without warning and almost blind people with bullet wounds?" Marc's muscled arm was thrown over his eyes.
"Only if the one turning on the light is also the one who took out the bullet for you."
I flicked the light sheet thrown over Marc's lower half away and shoved the white bandage to the side to check the wound. Still looked good, no extra inflammation or bleeding. In the process I also shifted the bottom hem of Marc's boxers up.
"I know you're probably eager and all Bambi but the boxers are staying on sorry." Marc's voice sounded hoarse and I reached for the water bottle on the side table, tossing the sheet back over Marc.
"Sorry to disappoint, I was just checking your wound." Marc finally took his arm off his face and accepted the water, chugging it down.
When his gaze met mine I swear my heart stopped. He had the most stunning eyes, a mismatched set of blue and green. Heterochromia. It didn't register to me that he was checking me out for a good few seconds and I tried not to let my checks redden. Of course he wakes up when I'm in flimsy shorts and a tank top with wet hair to top it off.
"So you like to play doctor then?" Marc grinned playfully but I didn't miss the way his eyes scrunched in pain.
"I don't play anything." I huffed. "I am a doctor, an Academy doctor to be precise."
"You can't be more the seventeen."
"I'm eighteen and your point is?" I turned around to grab some pain meds out of my medical bag that was placed on the ground. "I'm going to help you sit up so you can take these if that's alright."
"Wait you're actually a doctor and you actually took the bullet out of my leg?" Marc looked skeptical.
"Yes, not that I really wanted to but you were dying and I took oath, even if that means I have to pull bullets out of men I don't know on dining tables." I knew I probably should have used better bedside manner but given the situation I didn't really care right now.
"Good to know my bullet wound was such an inconvenience for you, I'll try not to get shot next time." Marc and I both looked at each other before laughing.
"That would be appreciated. Or maybe next time get a through and through and come to the hospital, make my work a little easier." I giggled as Marc rolled his eyes at me.
"Okay, help me up Bambi, those pain meds are sounding really nice right now." I bent over Marc's right side and maneuvered myself so I could lift his upper body up as smoothly as possible. By the time he was sitting up his face was twisted in pain and he swallowed the pills without water.
"I can't say I'm sad I got you as a doctor instead of Dr. Green. He doesn't have nearly as nice of boobs as you do." I guess helping him sit up probably shoved them pretty close to his face. Whoops.
"The fact you've seen his boobs at all is slightly unsettling but who am I too judge if you two play doctor in your own time." I joked, hoping to distract him from the pain. When he laughed I smiled brightly.
"So how did you end up stitching me up anyways, Dr....?" It didn't surprise me that Marc didn't remember seeing me on the elevator.
"Oh sorry, I'm Dr. Sang Sorenson but considering the circumstances please just call me Sang. I moved into this building today and ran into you on the elevator. I was a little concerned as to why you weren't at the hospital until I learned it was academy business."
"You're Bambi." Marc declared, ignoring my request to use my name. "but really, thank you. For saving my life."
Any amusement drained off his face and he looked at me intently. My heart raced at how sincere he looked.
"No worry, you were good patient and didn't even get blood on my jeans."
"You're welcome." A cheeky grin was on his face in no time. "So, Bambi, would you mind getting me something to eat? I would do it myself but I don't think I'd make it very far."
"Sure, want me to just send in Axel and the others with it? I'm sure they would be happy to see you awake." Up until this point I'd completely forgot about them, too amused with Marc and I's banter.
"Might as well now that I've taken pain meds." Marc pretended seeing them was a chore but his eyes lit up when I mentioned them. They were his team, his family.
I made my way back to the kitchen where the boys still were. Raven and Corey chatted silently by the stove while Axel and Brandon just stood quietly with thoughtful looks.
"Marc's awake and hungry." I informed them. "Everything seems fine, I just gave him medication for pain but be quiet and try not to rile him up to much."
They moved quickly, grabbing some food and disappearing down the hall within seconds. Not wanting to disturb their family reunion I sluggishly walked into the living room and curled up on the couch. For reasons I couldn't comprehend, spongebob was the tv program playing on the tv.
A few minutes passed and I fell asleep curled in a ball listening to Spongebob fail his drivers test again.
