THE NiGHT BEFORE...
"Heh, daddy?"
My five year old Avery, my second youngest daughter spoke. As I was standing hear in the kitchen finishing up the dishes from dinner.
Avery has beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes. Just like her mom.
I turned to look down at her and in contempt, I replied;
"Yes, honey?"
"When will the world end?" She asked.
This was a strange question to ask. I thought to my self.
I replied with hesitation;
"Well... not for a very long time."
She continued;
"But what if the world ended tomorrow, what would happen?"
She asked with a very enthusiastic jump in her voice. But I had to think what I should tell her. Maybe it's best to say it won't. Maybe it's best to leave it unanswered.
I replied, "Honey lets just get through today and not worry about tomorrow."
She jumped emotionally and gave a, "OKAY!!!"
Then just started skipping away. After having six kids it never ceases to amaze me. How much they can get distracted so easily.
Now as Kevin and Mathew come running through the kitchen.
"Heh!!!" I yelled in a very stern voice.
"Yes?" They both answered.
Coming right back into the kitchen. After getting about halfway down the hallway.
"Nichoal and Katie are both sleeping right now. So stop running around and goofing off because I'm sure you guys don't want to wake up Nichoal. Remember last time?" I explained.
They both remembered and started being a little quieter and started tippy toeing down the hallway to their rooms.
Kevin is my ten year old and Mathew is my nine year old. Both have sleek short light brown hair and hazel colored eyes. They both are a pain in the but. But I love them both, not just because their my only boys.
Nichoal is my 14 year old. Her hair is also light brown. But she has dark blue eyes. She's creative and very smart. Nichoal being my oldest. I rely on her a lot. Since my wife died six months ago. Katie is my seven year old. She has long black hair; " Which takes hell of along time to clean by the way," and bright blue eyes. She is also very shy. My youngest would be Claire. She's only a little over two years old.
Our house isn't huge. It's a decent size though. It's big enough to fit a family of seven in it.
Now just like every night. For the last 5 months. After all six children are in bed. I usually just go to the living room and look through old pictures or some scrap books of me and Sarah my wife made from high school. After all we were high school sweet hearts.
She was my best friend and the love of my life. In someways she still is.
But for tonight, just falling a sleep on this couch was good enough for me.
After another long, but successful day.
NOW!!!
It was 5:04 a.m. on a Friday morning. When I got woke up by police sirens. Here in Chicago, Illinois its always loud. You hear sirens and trains all night long. But you'd most likely get used to it. After living here for a few years.
I sat up and grabbed the remote for the T.V. That sat on the table. On the right side of the couch. The T.V. only sat about 7 feet in front of me.
I then pressed the button to turn it on and was about to start looking for the news channel. As I do just about every morning. The weird thing was that the news was on as soon as I turned the T.V. on. I checked what channel was on and it is a channel the news shouldn't be on.
