The first step out of that catacombs had Vixen change back to mortal form: instead of the beautiful silver hair, it was her normal brown; instead of the golden eyes, it was her blood red ones and instead of that beautifully pale and porcelain skin, it was her tanned one.

She looked away from James, closing her eyes. "I believe I don't need to explain myself."

"There were some parts he didn't say," James replied, not sounding like he was surprised. But she knows the truth. "Said it was your story to tell."

"Are you willing to wait? Because the full past of Vixen, heir of the Blood Moon Tribe and Iana Covencloud, descendant of Dazonth and Aproth and heir of the Golden Throne, will not be revealed anytime soon."

"I think I like it better when I don't know anything at all," he said, fixing his eyes on the path in front of them. "It makes everything much easier."

She nodded. "That's what you did, I suppose."

"My village kills half-bloods.Of course I told no one."

"But you told her." It was a touchy subject and she knew she shouldn't pry. But she just sold out who she is to James. He needs to do the same.

"And that's what killed her." His voice was quivering, but she ignored it and just gave him a practiced smile.

"We all have our scars," she murmured, more to herself than to James. "Yeah."

Because it's easier to think that way. It's easier to think that there is no one in the world who doesn't have troubles and a scar. But she knows the truth.

That gods-damned kingdom where everything was perfect and they wanted to spread it out, but only caused war. The Kingdom of the Burning Flame. Ruled by Yaldir, the Phoenix. The one who destroyed her kingdom.

"I'm only helping because my master told me to," she hissed at Zack, who was helping her with the books she brought. It wasn't entirely true.

She's also helping because Tidal is looking for the Duke of Darkness's fragment so that he can become a werewolf. And because the Duke of Darkness is Damon, Dazonth's older brother and that transformation and even holding the amulet is already a death wish.

She opened the book The Curse of Darkness and stared at the map. "The only way for him to transform into a werewolf is to have all he fragments of Damon's amulet. La Luna has one of it." Even without confirmation, Vixen knew that the fragment La Luna has came from the necklace she wore when she approached La Luna. Because there's a price to living in that tribe and her payment was the fragment. "The others, I have no idea. But once you have one of pieces, it'll know where the others are and lead right to them."

"What if La Luna already has all the pieces and Tidal is just going there to steal it from her?" Crestella thought out loud. "Or what if she's just going to give it to Tidal?"

"That's dumb," Vixen growled. "La Luna won't ask me to help you guys just to trick me. I know my master more than the two of you."

"Calm down," warned Lucien, Vixen's Second. "He wouldn't go to the Tribe immediately, that I think you know, the question is: where is he heading? Who is he with? What happened with his mind?"

The last question made everyone in the room turn to the young lord. He widened his eyes in confusion. "Me?"

Vixen growled again, irritated. "Of course you!" It took a lot of self-control to not reveal her canines and claws at them all. "It might be by the way you treat him that he thought of transforming."
