Moriarty was gone. It made no sense. We all had seen him fall from the shot in the back. How could he gave just disappeared? But I don't care about that right now. I look back to Elena and she looks like she's about to go unconscious.
"No, hey Elena keep your eyes open. Please Elena don't go to sleep. Stay with me." I say to her.
"Did I hit him?" she asks.
Just then the ambulance pulls up and two paramedics rush to wear I'm holding Elena. They push me aside and get her onto a gurney.
"Spencer?" I hear her whisper as they put her into the ambulance, I climb in with her. I have only had Elena for about a month and this is the second time I've ridden with her in an ambulance. I grab her hand and stay silent. When wet get there the doctor tells me to sit in the waiting room. The team meets me there.
"Spence, I'm sorry." JJ says.
"Yeah, Reid we should have realized that she would try something like that. And we shouldn't have been so focused on her and noticed that Moriarty was behind her." says Morgan.
It's okay guys, it's not your fault." I say. It's mine really. I love her, but I can't protect her? I'm a horrible person.
"Uh, Elena Rivers?" the doctor asks when he comes out.
"Yes." I say walking towards him.
"She lost a good amount of blood, but she'll be just fine. The blade just missed her kidney. You could actually take her home tomorrow. We need to keep her overnight for observation, and she'll need at least a week of bed rest. But other than that she could probably go back to work in a couple weeks."
"Thank you, Doctor. Can I go see her?" I ask.
"Yes, she's asking for all of you." He leads us to her room. We walk in on her fighting with the nurse. Elena is trying to get up, but the nurse is trying her to stay lying down.
"I'm okay. I need to go to the bathroom." Elena is saying.
"Ma'am you've lost a lot of blood, you need to stay sitting." the nurse says, annoyed.
"Here, I've got it." I say to the nurse and walk over to Elena. "Elena please stay sitting down." She looks nervous when she sees me and the rest of the team.
"Okay." she says defeated, and looks down. The nurse and the doctor leave us with Elena.
"How do you feel?" I ask her.
"Sore, like I got stabbed." she says, had still down. I don't know why she looks so anxious. It's like she's scared of us.
"Elena, what's wrong?" JJ asks. Obviously the whole team noticed too.
"Aren't you all sort pissed at me?" she asks.
"What? Why would we be?" I ask her.
"Because I screwed everything up. Once I knew that he knew about us, I got you out of the way and took your gun because I knew he'd kill you. Then I got all psycho on him and distracted you. Then I thought I had him. I did. I shot him. But where the hell is he?!" she explains as she's starting to form tears in her eyes.
"Elena, you did nothing that we shouldn't have expected. You had every reason to want him dead. We just care about you getting better right now." Prentiss says. But Elena isn't listening, she is trying to get out of bed again.
"I have to get out of here. Wet need to go back, I got him he can't be that far away." She is mumbling.
"No Elena you need to lie down. You're going to rip open your stitches!"
"NO! He does not get to live through this! He did not get to keep doing this to people! I can't just sit here knowing what happened to me and all those other girls, will happen to someone else!" she is fighting back the tears now.
I don't know what to do for her. I got know how to console her, tell her they nothing is going up happen, that Moriarty won't go this to anyone else, because I can't. I can't promise that no matter how much I want to. Morgan helps me hold her down, which isn't to hard since her crying made her not fight as much. Morgan lets go and she just crashes into my arms. Elena lets herself cry for only a little bit, then she pulls herself together.
"I'm so sorry, guys." she says. "This is my fault."
"Not a chance." says Rossi.
"We could have gotten him if I hadn't been so set on revenge."
"You deserve to act out revenge on that bastard," I say looking directly in her eyes, "And you'll get it, I swear to you that we'll get him. I will make you feel safe again."
"Thank you." Elena says softly. I nod in return.
"Okay," says Rossi. "Let's get this guy."
