The Call of the Void- Chapter 19- Hate to Know I'm Responsible

Start from the beginning

Two shots rung out and Ze more than expected them to it some part of his body, but they hit the wall on either side of his head, digging into the drywall. His eyes are wide and his tucked in on himself stiffly. He's pretty sure he heard Seamus call his name, but he isn't sure.

“Don't fucking move.”, Aleks growled and his attention is diverted towards Seamus in the doorway.

He's never touched so close to death; felt his his life flash before his eyes and have a bullet being shot so close to him. He's never been so scared.

He has to move. He has to protect Seamus. Seamus isn't dying not. Not yet. It's not his time. He's still got so much to live for. He's all Ze has in the world. He can't lose that. But why can't he move? He has to move and it has to be now!

He can hear their voices ring out from Seamus' room and he flinches when he hears two shots. He freezes for the briefest of moments before he hears Seamus' voice begging for mercy. Come on, Ze, you're better than this. Stand now.

With a grunt between the clench of his teeth, he manages to stand, teetering on his feet. He's unarmed and doesn't have time to get anything to protect himself. He regrets not letting Seamus leave weapons in the linen closet behind him because this is the one situation where it would actually be useful. He manages a few steps, his body still recovering from the shell shock and the force of the blow to him. Before he knows it, he's in Seamus' doorway again, watching the scene unfold in front of him.

“Eddie's dead.”, Seamus admits, “I killed him.”

It all happens in flashes in his head because it's all too fast. Kevin manages to pull Aleks away and too the ground. The fabric of his shirt rips as Aleks hits the ground and the gun spins out of his hand to the other side of the room. Seamus moves- so fast Ze can swear that he teleported- to the other side of the room where the gun has slid, picking it up with his back pressed against the wall. Kevin, taking advantage of Aleks on the ground, takes the opportunity to begin kicking at Aleks' side, doing anything to defend the other three people in the room. Seamus scoops up the gun, two handing to to stop from trembling. Aleks growls with every kick to his ribs, reaching up to bring Kevin to the ground with him. Aleks manages to get on top of him, pinning him down to the ground by holding both hands above his head.

“Stop.”, Seamus demands.

Kevin and Aleks whip their heads around to Seamus with has two fingers on the trigger. “Let him go, Aleks, this isn't about him.”

“He's expendable. I can kill him if I want.”, Aleks gasps out, breath going in and out of his lungs at a quick pace.

“He's innocent. He barely even touched the body. It was me. It was all me.”, one of Ze's hands pushes the door back so he can get a better look at Seamus. There's tears streaming down his face. He's never seen Seamus cry before.

Ze sees Aleks' grip soften on the fabric of Kevin's sleeves at Seamus straight admission. Aleks' hands flatten on the sides of Kevin's forearms, face twisted in perplexity.

“Why?”, he whimpers, “Why would you take him away from me?”
