Eve
South Burgh burned down. Somebody lit it on fire, trying to burn the old ruined building down. I'm not surprised though, those maniacs over there have no such thing as a sense of judgement. The police asks the people for help, telling that it was a crusial felony which would not be taken easy on. A bunch of liars, all of them. Rich, living in the nicer neighborhood they are probably at home laughing at their stupid comments on tv.
My Louboutins are standing beside the bedside table, they have the last month. I'm staring at them in the background of my silouette in the mirror. It was a gift from my father from when he came back from New York, mid summer break. They are white with the signature red sole, nice and shiny new. I look back at my body wearing a pair of skinny white jeans and a blue shirt. The blue does not match the red sole.
"Eve? Dad is leaving in ten minutes, do you want him to drop you off at school?" Mom calls. Her voice is groggy, it's obvious she haven't had a coffee yet.
"Yes, I'll be down in a minute!" I call back, ripping a silk scarf out of my drawers. It's got both blue and red in it, which makes me beg that it will pull my outfit together. I grab my black leather bag and slip my feet into the Louboutins. Fitting like a glove. One last time I look at myself in the mirror to make sure that my hair is still silky and sleek, and that my makeup looks airbrushed and perfect. That my whole appearance is perfect. Willis will be there, and I'm going to show everybody that I'm the one who got the most out of our breakup. After all, it was me that broke up with him.
I walk down the stairs, which is rumored to be one of the most impressing staircases in the whole of eastern Oregon, to see my mom sitting in the sofa wearing only her robe, watching tv while enjoying a cup of black coffee. Her hair is tied up in a bun, and I pray that none of the neighbors will come over on a surprise visit.
"It's absolutely horrible. Who would want to burn down a school" she huffs and I nod for an answer.
"Any left of that coffee?" I ask, while watching videos of the school falling down to the ground. The reporter is standing in front of a a huge crowd of angry people, and they are screaming all sorts of terrible statements towards the police and the politicians in this town. The south siders have a tendency to blame everything that happens in this town on us living on the northern side. South Tansburgh is a mix of everything from extremely poor people to immigrants to relatively normal people. Me, I live in the northern end, consisting of the best of the bestest of this town. Our house is right next to the majors house, and my father is a very successful lawyer while my mother is a brain surgeon. In other words, our status is right where it should be.
"Sure honey, just bring some coffee to school. I bought some new almond milk as well and there are fresh avocados in the fridge" Mom answers. I stomp into the kitchen, finding my dad answering his emails. He doesn't say good morning, just nod in my direction. He never does, most of his time goes to his job and he clients. I understand, if it wasn't for that job we would never be where we are today.
I grab an apple and fill my cup with coffee and almond milk, before heading for the door. My dad is already two steps ahead of me. His suit is fitting around his skinny tall body, and the frown on this face tells me that it's not a good day at work. Walking over to the couch to give my mother a kiss the Tv shows yet another clip of the burning school, asking whoever did it to come forward for the kids sake. It's not that I don't feel sorry for those people, but I can't help but roll my eyes at it. I can name at least three psychopaths living in the very same neighborhood as that school.
Kissing my mom I rush outside to intake the passenger seat. The car-rides with my father is always very quiet, so I turn on the radio straight away to prevent the awkwardness. It's a beautiful day and while the Mercedes roll out of our driveway I stare at the pure blue sky. It couldn't be a better day to start my senior year.
