Your life would be so much easier if you could just go one day without seeing that person again.
But, you can't. It's as if they're following you.
Despite how hard you try to ignore them, they always stumble into the picture--ditzy, defected, and detestable.
And they make it way too easy.
You glare at them from across the room, remembering that one time they tripped and spilled food all over you in the cafeteria. Because you're such a nice person, you smiled and shook it off, laughing when people asked if you were alright.
But, you cursed them out the moment no one was watching.
You've seen how they eat, shoveling food down their throat as though it were more important than air. It's the most disgusting thing you've ever seen. With the way they look, less food would do them some good.
You remember every time they've said something stupid in class. It always made you want to slam your head against the table in disgrace.
But, you're not mean. You don't pick on them. They bring this ridicule on themselves. Everything about them is wrong. They're disgusting, lazy, irresponsible, and useless. An unreliable, unlovable, unbearable waste of space.
From their position across the room, they look up at you, afraid. They know what you're going to say.
You roll your eyes and pinch the bridge of your nose. Their mere appearance was enough to ruin your day. "You know you're trash, right?" You say bitterly.
Their eyes begin to water and they wring their hands, saying nothing in response.
"You never do anything right." You hiss. "You're a constant screw up. Your friends pity you, your family is disappointed in you, and absolutely no one would miss you if you left. "
Again, they say nothing. So, you continue.
"You smell so bad, your face is disgusting, you're fat, your skin is crap and you're about as talented as an actual turd."
Still, they say nothing.
Your jaw unhinges as you let out every insult you were clever enough to think of. You shout, point, and pick at every flaw on their hideous body. You call them every swear word in the book.
They wait until you're done, tears streaming down their cheeks. You know they don't deserve your words. But it's so much easier to be mean.
Slowly, between sniffs, they finally speak up. "You're being cruel." They say.
You drop your head, feeling the tears drip down your own cheeks as well.
Ashamed, you wrap your arms around yourself and sink to the floor, away from them--your reflection in the mirror.
Digging your fingers into your skin, you cry, rocking back and forth as you simultaneously protect and punish the person inside you. You can't stand how imperfect they are. You can't stand yourself.
"I wish you'd just be nice to me." They whisper.
"I do too." You sob.
Although everyone deserves some kindness, we often forget to grant it to ourselves.
