Hello guys this is Rinoa and here are some 7 tips on how to give your Oc's some meaningful name.
1. Name them after some character you know in movies, games, People around you or u know what I mean.
-the easiest part, also the less meanigless ideas but its quiet good. My name Rinoa was actually from a Final Fantasy 7 character my Dad loves a lot and it also means "light". I also did this one to Felicia too. Felicia Victoria Evangeline Rinoa P. Fate. Felicia (From Fire Emblem fates awaken) Victoria (A very common name for a royal girl) Evangeline (Nicky's little sister) Rinoa (You guys know it already xD) P. (Secret for now) Fate (this will be explain in 2).
2. Make it incline to the story.
-you know, some authors often use wonderful name to fit in a title. My example would be "Felicia's Fate" and her last name is "Fate" because I want her name to be incline to the story too. Other example is the Sonic Universe Comics where Eclipse is. The title says "Shadow fall" and if you look for something with the meaning "shadow fall" you'll have "Eclipse". Make the name near to the title, either from the genre, stuff like that.
3. A sentence from the name.
-this is where the true meaning of the name would be use. First find a name with the meaning you wish, then get another one to make a sentence. Example is Felicia Fate (her name and last name). Felicia means "happiness" so if I do "Felicia Fate" then it's incline to her goal in her story. "A happy fate/future". My name u ask? "Rinoa Patricia" Is meaning "Light Warrior Princess".
4. A ship name.
-This is what happen to my little sister. My Dad and Mom's name were mixed into "LeiRa". Or like my son Leno. Get two name of your choice and mixed them as one. Easy does it..
5. It came from this and that.
-like in no.3 but it has to have basis and inspiration. Spoiler I have a character name "Arlo Lynchin" in Felicia's fate and the reason why I dedicate it to Red because the name "Arlo Lynchin" was actually his full name. (Lets just say that LJ and I kinda did something crazy that we remove some letters in his name in his chair and thats what we come up,. Arlo Lynchin). It has to have basis and inspiration.
6. The Character's personality.
-its incline to the characters Ideal self. Example is "Blake Belladona" in RWBY (The black Faunus). Blake means Black (her color scheme) and Belladonna is a beautiful fruit but dangerous when eaten (its what you call Nightshade). Other? "Tale as old as time" xD naa.. About Bell, she was look up to as "beauty" but it also turns out that her name also means the same.
7. Random encoutering
-if you have mood, why not make your own? I did this before Once or twice.
