Cal's Match (Cupid's Match contest entry)

Cal's Match

*2 years after cupid's match took place*

I walked over to see the familiar sign; "Sorry, we're not taking any new clients at this time."

When will they be taking new clients?

I sighed and smiled to myself.

I opened the familiar door to the Matchmaking Service.

Walking in I saw the familiar faces of Cupid and Lila laughing about something.

I walked over to them greeting them.

"Hey guys, what's up?" I greeted approaching them.

"Chloe-" Lila extended the 'e', and Cupid waved and smiled.

"Nothing much, we were just talking about the upcoming valentines day!" Cupid said excitedly.

Valentines day was tomorrow and cupids, of course, were big on celebrating.

"Where's Cal?" I asked, looking towards the back of the office.

"My brother's back in his office doing work- like always," he scoffed.

I sighed and smiled again, "That's what I'm here for."

I walked back towards the office Cal was in and approached him.

"Hey Cal!" I yelled hoping to scare him.

He jumped at least three feet in the air, and looked at me with wide eyes.

"Chloe what are you thinking scaring me like that!" He yelled with his hand on his heart, as if to slow the rapid beating down

I laughed and sat next to him, "So, what are we doing for valentines day?" I asked him.

He looked at his computer, "well, we have to make sure we match up a few different people..." He went on and on about work, but I just liked to hear him talk.

He was sweet. He just covered it up. Acted like he didn't care, when in reality he did.

"What do you have planned for Valentines day?" I asked just to mess with him.

He looked at me stupidly, "I have to work."

Poor Cal had dedicated himself to his job.

It's his way of dealing with immortality, which is hard.

I've always struggled with being immortal, as a cupid.

"Come on Cal! You need to do something on valentines day, besides work," I trued to persuade him.

I was known as one of the only people who could persuade him.

"Like what?" He looked at me unamused.

"We can hang out!" He gave me a weird look, "as friends, of course!"

"I can't I have to much work to keep up on," he looked back at his screen.

"Please, you need to have more fun!" I tried again, he looked at me curiously.

"Alright fine, I will."

I would be lying if I said that didn't surprise me. I thought I would have to bribe him with something but, no he just agreed.

Weird.

"Awesome! Tomorrow we can go to the love shack," I told him and left the room.

The love shack was the place everyone hung out, why it was called 'the love shack' was beyond me.
