Isak was on his way to town in the early morning, as usual. His hair wasn't styled and he was wearing his normal clothes, a white shirt, a blue vest and blue pants. He stopped outside the doors to town and got lost in his thoughts.

"Little town, it's a quiet village...
Everyday like the one before..
Little town, full of little people...
Waking up to say.."

He went inside the little wall that covered the center of the little Norwegian village.
The people began to wake up and opened their windows and called out to each other and to Isak.
-„Halla!"
-„Halla!"
-„Halla!"
-„Halla!"
-„Halla!"
Isak waved to some people who greeted him, and even said some small hallas back. He began to walk through town as he got lost in his thoughts again.

"There goes the baker with his tray like always, the same old bread and rolls to sell..
Every morning just the same, since the morning that we came to this poor provincial town.."

He came back to reality as he heard someone call out to him.
-„Goodmorning Isak!"
Isak stopped in his tracks and turned around to face Monsieur Jean, the man who had called out to him.
-„Goodmorning Monsieur Jean! Have you lost something again?"
Isak knew that it was very common of Monsieur Jean to lose his things.
-„Well I believe I have..."
Monsieur Jean said.
„The problem is I've.. Can't remember what.."
He looked confused.
Isak let out a small laugh.
„Oh well.. I'm sure it will come to me."
Monsieur Jean made a small pause.
„Where are you of to?"
Isak smiled and began to walk backwards.
-„To return this book to Père Robert, it's about to lovers in fair Verona."
Monsieur Jean looked unamused and said goodbye to Isak in that kind of way.
-„Sounds boring"
Isak knew this town wasn't into reading, in fact everyone thought it was a waste of time. Everyone except Isak.
Isak wasn't very popular in the little village, people talked about how handsome he was(which he really didn't understand, since he thought he looked awful), but other then that people just thought he was weird.
As he made his way through town, he overheard some kids on their way to school talk about him.
-„Look there he goes that boy is strange no question.."
He sighed and continued to listen as the boys teacher spoke up.
-„Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?"
Isak went over a small bridge and came to the place where the women and the older girls was washing clothes.
-„Never part of any crowd"
-„Cause his head's up on some cloud" he heard two of the women say.
-„No denying he's a funny boy that Isak.." the older girls said.
As he came to the part of town where everyone was selling stuff he listened to what people said to each other, and not about him.
-„Halla, good day, how is your family?" an young man asked an young woman.
-„Halla, good day, how is your wife?" the young woman asked in return.
Isak then heard an older woman.
-„I need six eggs."
The woman looked at the price.
„That's too expensive"

"There must be more than this provincial life"

Isak was now outside Père Robert's home. He decided to walk in without knocking, and so he did.
-„Ah, if it isn't the only bookworm in town." Père Robert greeted him.
„Where did you run off to this week?"
-„Two cities in northern Italy, I didn't want to come back." Isak said.
„Have you got any new places to go?"
-„I'm afraid not... But you may re-read any of the old ones that you'd like!"
Isak picked a book he knew he liked from one of the shelves.
-„Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big." Isak said with a smile.
-„Fin tur!" Père Robert exclaimed.

As Isak went outside and continued his walk through town he heard people talk about him again.
-„Look there he goes that boy is so peculiar."
-„I wonder if he's feeling well.."
-„With a dreamy far-off look."
-„And his nose stuck in a book."
-„What a puzzle to the rest of us is Isak.."

Isak sat down at the edge of a fountain and began to read his book.

"Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favourite part, because, you'll see...
Here's when she meets Prince Charming, but she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three..."

He soon got up and continued his little walk.
-„Now it's no wonder that his name means beauty, his looks have got no parallel.." an older woman said.
-„But behind that fair facade, I'm afraid he's rather odd.." three younger men said at the same time.
-„Very different from the rest of us.."
-„He's nothing like the rest of us!"
-„Yes different from the rest of us is Isak."

On the hill outside of the little village stood Emma and her sidekick Maria and their horses.
-„Look at him Maria... My future husband."
She sighed.
„Isak is the most beautiful boy in the village, that makes him the best."
-„But he's so... Well-read! And you're so.. Athletically inclined!" Maria said.
-„Yes, but ever since the war I've felt like I've been missing something.. And he's the only boy that gives me that sense of..."
Emma was not like other girls in the village, she fought in the war alongside the boys, since she was very strong.
-„Mmm... Je ne sais quoi?"
-„I don't know what that means.."
They rode into the village as they continued their conversation.
„Right from the moment when I met him, saw him, I said he's gorgeous and I fell.. Here in town there's only he, who is beautiful as me, so I'm making plans to woo and marry Isak.."
Emma and Maria stopped in front of three boys. The boys started blushing really hard and started talking to each other.
-„Look there she goes, isn't she dreamy? Madame Emma, oh she's so cute! Be still my heart, I'm hardly breathing. She's such a short, dark, strong and gorgeous girl!"
Emma looked at them with and unamused look, but she still enjoyed them talking about her that way. Her horse kicked in mud and it went all over the boys.
-„Not gonna happen boys..." Maria said.
Emma spotted Isak in another part of town and gave Maria a look which meant they should go over there.

Isak went into the crowd to make his way out of town again.
Emma had now jumped off her horse and went after Isak.
-„Bonjour!" a woman said.
-„Pardon." Emma said, a little bit irritated, as she tried to make her way through the crowd.
-„Good day!" Isak said to someone.
-„Det er riktig!" another woman said.
-„You call this bacon?" another woman said, by now all the voices got mashed together in Isak's head.
-„What lovely flowers!"
-„Some cheese.."
-„Ten yards!"
-„One pound"
-„Excuse me!" Emma said.
-„I'll get the knife."
-„Please let me through!" Emma exclaimed.
-„This bread."
-„Those fish."
-„It's stale!"
-„They smell!"
-„Madame's mistaken."
-„Well, maybe so.."

"There must be more than this provincial life!"

-„Just watch, I'm going to make Isak my husband!" Emma said to some random person.
-„Look there he goes that boy is strange but special!" someone said
-„A most peculiar Monsieur!" someone else said.
-„It's a pity and a sin, he doesn't quite fit in.."
-„But he really is a funny boy."
-„A beauty but a funny boy."
-„He really is a funny boy that Isak!"

-„Isak! Isak! Isak!!!" Emma screamed after him, but he just ignored her and went home to his mother, who was an inventor.

There goes chapter one! I was really proud of it when I first wrote it, but now I'm not really sure, hope you'll like it though!

So there's some things I wanna put out there:

1. Isak=Belle, Emma=Gaston, Maria=LeFou
I think you all will understand this, but in case someone didn't!!

2. I know Monsieur and Madame is French, but since I didn't know how to translate it to Norwegian I let it be that way. If someone knows please help me!!

3. I've read what "Je ne sais quoi" means, but I didn't wanna translate since I didn't know if it would keep it's joke if it was translated.

Please tell me what you think!! It means the world to me
Have an amazing day!!

Take care, S
