Tragedy Amongst Us All

As my lovers eyelids shut,

the final curtain closing to the play called Life,

my tears swept the stage;

drowned the theatre with pronounced strife.

Death stole his hand;

lead my fair Romeo off to his demise.

Little did anyone know

this was the last scene of his young life.

Spotlight slowly dimmed,

no star to capture the audience's eyes.

Unaware of the lurking,

smiles still shadowed the consealed lies.

Only I had screamed,

nightmares flooded my blurred vision.

Only I saw the blood trickle

off of his neck, as if in my derision.

Breathing so slow;

steady rhythm to the crouds laughter.

How could they not notice?

I knew there was no happily ever after.

Couldn't reach him;

not in time for his life to be saved.

I wasn't enough.

Not enough to save him from the crazed.

Or so it had seemed,

as my eyes open for true sight.

In his hospital bed he lay,

yet my reaction is less than delight.

I still wasn't enough,

although in my reach he now became.

All that I am able

is to desperatly whisper his name.

Tell him of my love;

cannot save him like I am to wish.

Stroking his weak hand,

as I lean in for a well-needed kiss.

But alas his eyelids shut;

his final curtain closing to the play called Life.

My tears sweeping the stage,

drowning the theatre with pronounced strife.
