Chapter Twenty Three - "Savin' Me"

Start from the beginning

Screeching penetrated my ears and I cringed away, trying to hide away in Balt's shirt.  The noise was torturous, it's never ending screech attacking my body.  She stopped as soon as I cried out in pain.

“Szuka, you listen.  Piroska is boss now.  You nothing.”  She spat out, graciously giving me her spit too.  I didn't want to cower in the corner, but I didn't want to face her either.  This woman terrified me – and it wasn't just because of her appearance.  There was something more sinister hidden beneath her ragged skin.  Something that was just dying to show it's ugly head.

As I slowly turned to look at her, still huddled away from her, she smiled.  “We put Dimitri in you.  You... you be him.  He give me beauty.”  She told me.  They were going to put some... Dimitri in me?  Or were they going to make me be him?  I wasn't sure but I felt like I'd heard the name before, however, I had no idea where.

“What?”  My voice had been reduced to a whisper, my throat sore from screaming.  They'd also made me drink something, something that had made me dizzy.

“Yes.  You give body to Dimitri.  He bring Hell here.”  Hell here.  Dimitri.  I vaguely remembered someone, one of the teachers in Angel School, talking about demons and their plans.  Something about them all wanting a certain dead demon to come back.  One who, if they revived, would wreak havoc amongst Earth.  All they needed was blood, apparently.  He hadn't delved into the issue, only passed over the matter lightly.

“I refuse.  You can't make me.”  I snarled at her.

“Oh but we can, Immi.”  His voice seeped into the bars and the floors of my room.

“You can't possess a body without permission.”  My voice was weak and it was obvious that nothing I said, or would say, would change their mind.  The small, taunting smirk that spread across his face showed how much he was enjoying this.

“Is that what they tell you up there?  That it's impossible?”  His sharp laugh rang across the room, bouncing off each stone.  “So naïve and young!  Did you know that the best types of possessions are the ones where the victims refuse?”

“Yeah?”  I said, trying not to let my fear show.  If I showed any fear, he'd milk it up.  I refused to let him have that advantage over me.  “Well, it's a shame that won't happen.”  Harmony, or someone, would save me.  They wouldn't leave me for dead.  Even if I didn't want to admit it, they'd probably save me to make sure they didn't get my blood.

“You think your little friends are going to find you?”  I just stared at him.  They would find me.  I know they would!  He started to laugh loudly, almost too much.  It was like he was amused at my thoughts.  “By the time they find you, you'll be long gone.  All that will be left is your body and that won't be yours.  You'll be rotting in Hell, burning like the pathetic humans living around us.  This peace you've maintained?  It won't be here for any longer.  Fuck, it'll be gone.  Creatures from Hell ripping apart those pathetic meatsuits you swore to protect, and all of your brothers and sisters screaming!  Well, those who dared to enter our new world.  Not that it won't be impossible for us to enter Heaven; we'll be stronger than ever.”  His lips curved into a malicious smile and I gulped.  This demon was delusional!  Completely unstable!

What he was trying to do was impossible!  There's no way one demon could possible achieve that, and we wouldn't let them!  None of the soldiers in Heaven would let them and there were so many angels on Earth that would stop them!  How did he think he would be able to do this?  More to the point, how did he think they'd get away with it?

“Please!”  I spat, “Like you could take over Earth.  We angels are relentless and you wouldn't be able to get even close to taking over.”

“Stupid girl.  Ipos clever.  Ipos know what he do!  He burn you all!”  His side-kick seemed to be kissing his butt.  I glared at her and resisted the urge to not look away.  They were mad!  Absolutely mad!  There was no proof about our blood either – there were no records of anyone being revived by angel blood.  It was just a stupid rumour that had circulated since angels existed.

“Ipos doesn't know what he's doing!  He's toying with things he doesn't understand!”  I exclaimed, not believing them.  They both seemed bent on doing this, trying to get someone to possess my body.  This Dimitri, whoever he was, wouldn't be living in my body.  No way!

“Oh, Immi, I do.  I'm completely sure of what I'm doing.”  That smile, turned into a grin.  A large, happy grin.  It was as if he was spreading good news but in this stone prison there seemed to be no good news.  All it was, was bad news and unhappy emotions.  No happiness, except for Ipos and his foreign friend, was present.  I could just feel sadness, desperation and anger lingering around this... this place, wherever we were.

“Well good luck trying to take over my body. I won't let you, and I have God on my side.” I firmly told them. Ipos just laughed away my statement before turning to look behind him.

“Take her to her new room.  Make sure she's comfy, after all, we wouldn't want Dimitri in a damaged body.”  A tall, bulky man stumbled into the room, bent the bars and dragged me out.  Kicking and screaming, I tried to get out of his tight grip but I could barely move!  However, I wasn't going to give up.  If I gave up, I'd be ruining everything we'd worked for.  Sure, I didn't believe what Ipos was saying but if it did happen... if it did happen and I'd given up now, I could never forgive myself (if I survived).

“I hope you rot in Hell when I kill you.”  I'd never kill anyone, and had never wanted to, but Ipos?  He needed to be dead.  He was a danger to everyone and I'm sure every angel would agree with me.
