                My mother had been pregnant for the usual amount of time, her stomach continuing to pop out of her clothes no matter how many sizes too big they were. My father insisted on photos of her whenever possible, taking on the role of the annoying man of the house. From the start, I expected a little brother. Somebody to carry on the family’s legacy so that I wouldn’t have to.

So, naturally; I was surprised when I heard the pack’s doctor tell my parents that they had a new daughter. I still remember walking into the room to see the runt, wondering how many more pups they would have to make before they got a male. That’s when I saw the little mark above her eyebrow.

And that’s why I met the alpha.
