Somewhere in the dorms at Princeton University, New Jersey, U.S.A................

I curl my hands inside my sweater around the coffee mug filled with soda that I had prepared during my last break of writing. Personally, I have never liked the taste of coffee itself, even in college and growing up with it in every family members morning diet I still can't stand the taste, so the bubbly drink was my only source of caffeine. Strange, I know considering most of the population thrives off it; however, I've never been one to follow the status quo.

After pulling the drink out of the warmth of my sweater to take a quick drink I quickly type a few more lines , furthering the paper for my history course due next week. In college there is always a paper needing writing or notes needing to be taken; a fact that is especially true when you're getting a double major.

I sigh as I look out my window and then pick up my laptop from my crossed legs to put it on one of the shelves next to me, in the bookcase window seat I'd taken with me from the bedroom I grew up it, and lay down across the purple velvet of the long seat.  Stretching out, I try to relax my muscles as I've been hunched over laptop from hours.

Suddenly a memory comes to me of a night just like this; in fact, I was sitting on this same seat. Which makes sense since I've had it from the time I was a little girl, only 7 years old; my father made it for me when I had nowhere to keep all my books and kept falling asleep next to my window with a book on my face. After I graduated high school I took it with me, and I don't think I'll ever live anywhere without it.

The memory is of the night I graduated, and it was just another late night, I couldn't sleep with the next day being my last as a high school student. My thoughts were going a million miles an hour, especially with the next day being my eighteenth birthday; though I didn't see what much of the fuss was about. To me it seemed no different from yesterday or the day five weeks ago, I wouldn't be any different than I was then, usually I just have a nice day with my friends and family but nothing to special . However, for some reason there is always that feeling of excitement I have the night of my birthday, but I think It's just because it means I know for certain I get cake the next day.

With my mind going in all different directions, I never could go to sleep early, that is unless I worked out that day.  Otherwise, to anyone that would see me it seamed the moon was my best friend. Of course though, that made the sun my enemy; making my dislike for coffee the worst thing considering it's how most people I know wake themselves up. It also means I have nothing to get my brain to at least partially functioning after a long night (a normal night for me), as I had to wake up for school at 5:30 in the morning. Though that night I had more than usually thoughts keeping me awake; I was so excited to get my diploma and start college. I had no idea that that I was in for more than just a diploma and cake that day.
