The Arrow

Three ancient words
Age as old as time
Spoken throughout the world
Its meaning so refined

Like a drug in our veins
Pumped by the heart
A rush in our brain
It overwhelms with desire

It ensnares the unguarded
It heats the coldest soul
All men are blinded
Believed to make them whole

I, too, am a victim
Of it's unforgiving clutches
He was the trap
And I, it's helpless prey

I gladly bit the bait
And didn't even wait
To lose myself
In its addicting euphoria

I drowned and reveled
In his smiles and laughter
Like a fool in the tale
Who walked to his own doom

I was hit by Eros' arrow
Tipped with red poison
He had the antidote
But gave it to another

That's how it ended.
With blood on the floor
And shards of my heart
As he walked out the door.
