"That lady the other day...is she really my mom?" Luke asked quietly

Daryl was quiet for quite some time.

"Yeah she is" Daryl finally said. "Luke, when you were a baby, your mom had a hard time being a mom so we thought it was best that she would go somewhere else to maybe learn how to be a better mommy.  I honestly don't know if she would be a good mommy right now but if you want to get to know her, I can make arrangements so that she can visit you at Nan and Pap's."

It was Luke's turn to be quiet for a little while.

"Can she come to my birthday party?" Luke asked softly

"If you want her to,  I'll invite her if you want her there" Daryl said with a heavy heart.

"Thanks dad, love you" Luke said yawning

"Love you too baby boy" Daryl whispered, kissing his forehead as Luke closed his eyes.

Sitting down on Daryl's bed, Lexi could feel her heart hammer in her chest.  If Luke decided he wants to see Sarah, how soon would Daryl follow?

***************

Putting the finishing touches on Luke's cake, Lexi looked up as Daryl walked through the door.  She was glad he was there, but she couldn't help the swarm of butterflies that circled in her belly making her so nervous she'd jump at anything.

"You about ready?" Daryl asked also being a bit nervous.

"Yeah" Lexi said softly, putting the lid over the cake pan.

"It's going to be fine" Daryl said softly, hugging her close. "You watch she probably won't even show up"

Lexi nodded but she knew better.  Sarah had her radar set on Daryl and what better way to get to him but through Luke?
Watching Daryl grab the cake pan and yell for Luke, the trio walked to the truck and began making their way to Luke's party.  Pulling into the drive of Daryl's mom and dad's, Lexi felt the butterflies kick it into high gear.  She did not want to be within 10 feet of this woman and was worried she would say something that would make her come across as a jealous nitwit.  Jumping as Daryl opened her door, Daryl looked at her curiously

"Lexi?" He asked softly

"Don't mind me" she laughed softly watching Luke run to the house, being smothered in kisses by his grandmother.

"Listen, I understand how you're feeling...I'm a little worried too but I'm with you and she's going to definitely know that.  I plan on being overly affectionate." Daryl winked.

"Stop" Lexi giggled as he kissed her over and over again.

Taking the cake into the house, Jane took the lid off and gasped.

"Oh my goodness Lexi, you outdid yourself!  How were you able to make it into a car shape?" Jane asked completely impressed.

"Well, I actually went looking for a cake pan that was in that shape but I couldn't find one so I bought one of those really thin cake pans and manipulated it enough so it looked like the shape of the car.  The wheels are chocolate cupcakes" Lexi smiled.  She was really happy how it had turned out.

"Has Luke seen it?" Jane asked

"Nope" Daryl said, trying to get a lick of frosting with his finger but was smacked by both his mom and Lexi. "Sheesh nothing like a tag team" Daryl muttered.

Hearing the doorbell, both Daryl and Lexi jumped then looked at each other.  Watching Luke go tearing down the hall, they relaxed a bit hearing more kid voices.
