A Coming Return

"Ah, Gisborne," the Sheriff said as we entered his chambers, "hold a bird." I stood behind Sir Guy as the Sheriff set the bird in his hands. I pursed my lips together to hold in a small laugh. It was amusing to see Sir Guy hold something so fragile. "Give him some love, poor thing. It is poetry though isn't it? A caged bird, a creature that would fly free, absolutely under my control. Now, talking of caged prettiness, when will you marry Marian?"

"In due course." Sir Guy simply told him.

"Oh, come on. Don't be coy. That's not the arrangement is it?"

"No. We will marry when the King returns."

"When the King comes. I might have news for you there."

"What news?"

"Do you know, sometimes I don't feed them for, oh, three days." The Sheriff was playing with Sir Guy. Torturing him on what news he could possibly have.

"What news?" Sir Guy let the bird go and it flew out of his hands and around the room.

"Oh Gisborne. Better start getting your wedding ready. The King's coming."

"What?"

"The King. He's coming. Here." Gisborne put his hands through his hair, and a smile appeared on his face.

"The King?"

"Maven will you please knock some sense into him. I will not keep repeating myself. You may go Gisborne." Gisborne didn't move he just stood there in awe. "Maven. Get him out of my room." the Sheriff ordered. I nodded and grabbed Sir Guy by the elbow and pulled him out of the room.

"I'm going to marry Lady Marian." he was in a trance. I kept pulling him towards his chambers. "I'm going to marry Lady Marian." he kept repeating himself. I rolled my eyes and he stopped moving. I turned to him. "We are going to Knighton Hall. I must tell Marian." I nodded and followed after him towards the courtyard.

Our horses were waiting for us when we exited the castle. I jumped on my horse and followed after Sir Guy to Knighton Hall. He was so excited. He had been looking forward to this for so long. I was happy for him, yet a little disappointed.

Things hadn't gone back to how things used to be. Ever since he found out I was a girl we had grown closer as friends, three weeks ago. He didn't allow his guards to talk back to me and order me like they had before. He never left me alone with another man. The only time I was with a man alone was with Sir Guy. It was annoying, and I was afraid that if he kept doing that then someone may catch on that I was a girl.

When we arrived at Knighton Hall, Marian and her father were out tending to their plants. Sir Guy handed me his reigns and went over to Marian. "Marian!" he called up to her. "Sir Edward." he stood in front of her. "I bring good news. There's something I— No." Sir Guy bent down and grabbed her at her waist.

"What are you doing?" She yelled as he picked her up and over his shoulder. She kicked her feet up and cartwheeled to the ground. What was he doing? What was he thinking?"

"I apologize," he said, "I just wanted to sweep you off your feet." I covered my mouth. That man has no idea what he is doing. I tried to stifle a laugh, but I felt a small one escape. I tried to play it of by coughing, but Sir Guy just glared at me. "Will you come with me to Locksley?"

"Why?"

"There's something you should see." Marian nodded and went into the stable and fetched her horse.

Sir Guy walked walked back over to his horse and jumped on. I handed him his reigns and he went off towards Locksley. I let Marian go after him, then I followed behind the two of them. We trotted along the path that led to Locksley. When we arrived, Sir Guy's stable boy took all three horses. Sir Guy took Marian's hand and led her inside and up to his room. I stood in the door way. Sir Guy walked to the back of his room and pulled back a curtain revealing his chest of coins. "I wanted to show you this. My wealth."
