        "luffy stop

"luffy stop." i sighed as i shooed him away. currently, we were touring san diego. well lost in san diego to be more specific. it was our last day on our semi-annual weekly vacation, and, just this once, out of all our trip, i let luffy hold the map. why? because he whined about me always deciding where we go whichu is true. in my defense, it's only because i despise wandering around at night/in dark places.

really and truly, i didn't decide where we went. we always made a list of places we wanted to see, and i just found the safest routes to get there. No crazy uber drives or narrow, dangerous staircases.

"let's just go!" he complained, tugging me shirt and pointing in a general direction. i didn't have the courage to tell Luffy yet, but i loved him. in times like this i wish I didn't so that i could get mad at him, and tell him how much of a dumbass he's being.

if anyone looked deep into those big, brown eyes, they wouldn't be able to do it without being a total monster or feeling like one. my boyfriend was unbearable adorable.

"no. we did that, and look where it got us." i grumbled, gesturing to the rusty trail tracks. for how long we had been wandering, we would be lucky to still me within 4 miles of the zoo, and god know how long it would take to walk back those 4 miles. it made me want to call an uber just thinking about it.

            "i thought you liked trains?"

"luffy, i'm a grown ass man. trains were great when i was five." awkwardly, i began to nibble on the inside of my cheek. it always astonished me how luffy seemed to remember the smallest bits and pieces of information i gave him about myself. thomas the train was my favorite thing when I was little, and he was probably thinking of when I told him that right now.

"i like trains. are you calling me a baby?" i only rolled my eyes in response. it's not like he would be offended if I did. luffy was the type of person to laugh off almost anything, and it was a vice just as much as it was a virtue.

a string of profanities ran off my lips as i relentlessly turned the map around and around. is this what is feels like to be what's-his name. that man luffy knows with the green spikes. his life much suck.

              "let's go to the zoo."

"we already went to the zoo."

"oh yeah..." luffy mumbled before wrapping his short arms around me, and sighing in deep thought. the more time ticked away the more restless my boyfriend would get. we needed to get moving and fast before my patience thinned. "let's go again."

"no." i stated, not leaving any room to argue. luffy only sighed and kicked up some dirty before humming a nameless tune.

as the sun got higher in the sky, my regret grew. why did I even let him touch the map. i highly doubt he bothering reading a word on the paper, only holding it to trick me. he went where ever he felt like, despite how kind or dangerous the pathway. truthfully, i could only blame myself for this. while we were walking i got distracted by him. looking over his face like i'd never seen it before.

"is something wrong, traffy? you're blushing." luffy asked with a grinned before putting his signature straw hat on his head from it place on his back.

"no." i mumbled, causing luffy to chuckled. he knew i was thinking about something embarrassing, but always choose not to pry. a smile couldn't help but form on my lips as i looked down on those round cheeks. "you know what? lets go find something to eat."

"as long as it had meat." luffy smiled, lacing his small fingers with my long ones. our hands seemed to always fit snug, just how i liked it.

"and no bread." i added before letting go of the map complete, not bothering to watch it flutter away in the wind. it was our last day in this city, and tommorow it was back to our rat race of jobs. why not go off course even if just for today?

"okay." luffy laughed, his face crinkling
perfectly like it always did. times like this he reminded me osomething my father said before he pasted.

'a merciful hand
will always reach out.'

with my finger tangled with his as our arms swayed with the breeze. I couldn't help but think that this was that hand. my past wasn't pretty, it was really everything but, yet walking fast through these uncharted alleyways, my future seemed better than i could have ever planed out.

"lead the way captain!" i teased remembering when the small boy told me he used to want to be a pirate when he grew up.

he paused looking back at me with something new in his big, warm, and brown eyes as a youthful grin grew on his round face. "this way to the meat! i can smell it!"

with my own smile to match, i couldn't help but roll my eyes at his antics. if anyone, 4 years ago, would have told me i'd fall in love with a 5'4", carefree boy with messy hair and a old fashioned straw hat, i would have laughed and told her to suck one.

    but here i am.
    and i couldn't be happier.
