Let me paint you a picture: it's the summer of '09. All Time Low just released their third album and it's climbing charts. And they're starting to plan a tour. But something was bound to go wrong at one point or another.

"I'm sorry about this, Jack," Alex had said to him that one fateful day. "I'm sorry that I did this. All of it. I'm not sure about how you feel, but I... I don't feel anything..." Alex trailed off. Jack had tears streaming down his face; his lip quivering and he was holding back a violent sob. One that would have him shaking; one that would wrack his whole body and make him feel just that tiniest bit lonelier than what he had already felt.
"How could you, Lex?" Jack had retorted to the male in front of him. "I--I trusted you. I gave you my all..." He paused, breath shuddering. "You know what? Fuck you Alexander Gaskarth! Fuck. You." Jack had turned to leave but before he could, Alex grabbed his wrist.
"It--it's not like that. It's not. I swear. Please..." Jack could only glare with glazed-over, teary eyes and stained cheeks at the man in front of him.
Why? Because he gives him a 'hello', lets him fall, fully knowing he wasn't going to catch him, then fucking turns around and says 'goodbye, I'm leaving'. Jack just couldn't believe Alex. After all this time--13 years of thinking you know a person--he never really knew Alex at all. At least, not in the way he thought. But at this point in time, Jack could only see one option--to say okay and so long to the elder.
"Please Jack, let me-"
"Leave me alone!" Jack finally yelled. He had finally snapped - Alex finally pushed all his buttons, taken all his chances and pushed Jack past his breaking point. Alex took a step back, not expecting Jack to raise his voice in this manner. He's never heard Jack yell; at least, not in a serious tone. Not like this. And especially not to him. "Just... leave me alone. Okay?"
Jack watched as Alex turned and walked away from him. Alex's shoulders slumped and head hanging in sorrow and regret. But this had to be done. Alex loves Stella, not Jack. Jack was just a crush he couldn't resist. And all the times Alex needed someone for his own needs, Jack was just... there.
He was always there.
Alex wanted cuddles on the tour they were on at the time? Jack was there.
Alex's hormones acting up - on tour and sometimes at home even? Jack was there to satisfy his needs.
Alex needed a shoulder to cry on or to talk someone's ear off about literally anything? Jack lent the helping hand--ear rather--to say the least.
But to know that all meant nothing to Alex and everything to Jack - it just hurt more than anything in the entire world.
He was leaving behind his best friend--the one who would do anything for him. The one who wouldn't tell a soul about anything he did. Fucking hell! Alex could've committed murder and Jack wouldn't say a word - he wouldn't tell a soul. He would even help Alex commit the murder if it was planned and justified.
Alex knew that this would take a toll on Jack; send him spiraling into depression once again. But Alex also knew that he was no good for Jack. He and Jack could never have a real relationship because of the fact that they were both guys; though half of their fan base wants them to be together.
Before disappearing from view completely, Alex turned around to Jack. "I'm sorry." Though he knew that his words now would mean nothing to Jack, he still said them anyway.
But no, those words didn't mean nothing to Jack. Those words seeped through his skin and to his heart. It hit him like a truck. Jack could feel his chest aching and his heart beating fast. It was almost like it was about to beat out of his chest.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
That's all he could say? I'm sorry?
*Three Months Later*
Jack sat on the edge of his bed, laptop on his dresser with his friend Ian and Tacitus (tah-see-tus) on Skype. They were all in a group call talking about nothing in particular --well, except video games and their own careers. They didn't get much time to talk each other due to living in different parts of the world. Tacitus in Australia, Ian in England, and Jack in the states--and not to mention the traveling all the time between Tacitus and Jack.
"Guys, I just hit one million subs on my youtube account!" Tacitus cried out in excitement, his thick Australian accent peeking through his words. Jack and Ian cheered, smiles filling the screen and waves of happiness crashing over each of the boys. That was a huge accomplishment for someone who started vlogging only about a year before. And, despite his name meaning quiet, Tacitus was very loud which amused Jack in the slightest.
But, in that moment, Jack felt happier than he had in a while. Genuine happiness overwhelmed him for his friends and the first time in what felt like years but was really only three months, his face sported a real smile. And Jack thought he couldn't feel better than he had at that exact moment; his friend had just reached one million subscribers and he had real, genuine happiness and excitement coursing through his body.
But after the cheering ended and conversation became scarce among the three, Jack felt the darkness piercing through him yet again; the sadness taking its rightful place in his body once more. The short-lived happiness that took over left and he--once again--couldn't see a point in much.
"Hey guys," Jack said out of the blue, "I got to go. I'll message you guys in a bit. Alex is calling me? See ya." Jack waved goodbye to his friends and hung up. He answered the phone call he was getting and a very cheerful voice chirped over the line.
"We got tour dates set up, shows have sold out. We're heading to Europe in a week!" As many times as they've travelled, it never gets old going to other countries.
"That's cool and all but..."
"But what?" Alex questioned.
"You're just gonna call me up like nothing has happened and everything is fine? Like our friendship didn't go to shit like three months ago?"
"Well..."
"Nevermind. Anyway, I'll get packed and be ready for the pickup next week. What day and time should I be ready to leave?" Jack inquired.
There was a long pause on the other end of the line then Alex answered softly.
"Next Thursday at 7am sharp." He paused again, then spoke a little bit more confidently. "Matt would kill you if you're late again." Jack nodded in agreement though the other boy couldn't see him.
"Okay. I gotta get packing then I guess. Bye."
"Wait, you're gonna start packing no-" Jack hung up his phone before Alex could finish and flopped backwards on his bed. He logged back onto his laptop and typed out a message to his friends.
