NOTICE: This part of the collection is admittedly the most personal and emotionally, draining. I wrote in all in quite quick succession then took a very lengthy break from working on this collection because of how I was feeling at the time of writing this - which is to say mostly upset and anger. I haven't re-read most of these works since writing them for that reason and also because I'm trying to place more emphasis and on the things that make me happy, but I just thought it was important I keep this part as is to show that growth from then to now.

1 | to be synonymous with sickness/my father

inspired by my fathers constant blame of my mother when is came to genetic diseases myself and siblings ended up having.

a poem about how similar in terms of personality i am to my father and how that, along with my heart condition has made for a miserable growing up.

2 | the patriarchy within our homes

a lot about my father's favouritism of his sons, and what living in a patriachal household truly means

3 | an absense of my father (and everything else that hurt me)

a poem in which my dreams talk of my desire for my father to be gone and become yet another one of the thousands of absentee father black kids are plagued with so at last i can be free and have a single moment to be my authentic self.

4 | the ones who inspire poetry and nothing else

here i talk about the rejects of the family and how it essentially means my mother is my only parents i go to  for guidance

5 | an unsent love letter to my mama

an ode to my mother. my only ally; who is flawed but strong

a poem structure in the form of an letter of an apology
