File: 3/ Getting Started

Start from the beginning

"I don't know what you're into. You're also not the straightest of the bunch. Can you just tell me what you wanted."

I dismissed the fact about my sexuality and asked him to bring me the folder. He saluted and went downstairs to grab the item that contained my notes for world history. "That kid will be the death of me I swear."

"He's not that funny; he's mediocre at best."

"Whatever your jokes are what's killing the seals."

Why the hell are all my friends funny and really dark? I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my neck and heard the sound of papers clattering to the floor. I turned around and saw my brother with his hand covering his mouth trying not to laugh. Spencer let out a loud guffaw from the other end.

"Spencer I will smash this phone against the wall if you don't shut up. And Denis do that again, and I throw you in the fire."

"I'm telling dad, Brendon." Which surprisingly came from my good old pal Spencer James Smith. Denis sauntered out of the room while I glared at the screen at my best friend. He's great most of the time, but sometimes he gets under my skin. That may not be his fault I have a short temper, a low tolerance for annoyance, and a lack of sleep. I also just reach my breaking point with someone after only talking to them for an hour.

"Okay, well I got to go. I'm going to do my homework and see if dinner is ready. Bye, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Okay, Bren see you at school."

I hung up the call and swiped out of the app. I walked down stairs to see how long it would be until dinner was ready. It wasn't going to be too exciting because it was Spaghetti O's, but I still wanted to talk to my family. It was therapeutic after going to school and then proceeding to just stay in my room. It was like going outside after school as a kid.

"Brendon! Watch with me. " Robin loved watching TV before or after dinner with Denis and me. Denis was rude and obnoxious about it, but although I didn't particularly like it, I still did it, because I enjoy spending time with my siblings.

"Sure Robin, what are we watching?" I said picking her up and putting her on my lap, and tickling her. "S-S-STOP B-DEN," she said laughing. I stopped long enough for her to tell me that she was watching The Chronicles of Narnia.Denis mocked her tone just to be obnoxious. Did I do this to him when he was the kid to make him like this?

"Denis be nice to your sister," I commanded him. He rolled his eyes and whispered that I wasn't dad. I didn't care enough to tell him to apologize, so I just left it there.

"Kids dinner is ready!"

I walked in and put Robin in her chair, and Denis sat at his usual seat. I'm glad my dad isn't very lazy when it comes to meals and put the effort in to make side dishes. Glad he's putting in those years in culinary school to good use. We were used to mom not being at dinner all the time because she was a doctor and had to work the afternoons into the night time.

"So Den how was school today?"

"The same, except I hate Mr. Reid. When his daughter, Sonja, comes in though it's great. She lets us read the whole period while she talks to him. Also, someone drew all over the bathroom with a sharpie, and now they have to check the security tapes to see who did it." [AN: This is actually happening at my school.]

"Well that's awful, and I pity whoever did that. Not only is it illegal but your principal is pretty tough."

Denis goes to Catholic school, and I did too, and I know how tough the priest was. I kind of hope he'd be tough too, he was an ex-navy seal after all. He's a family friend who is surprisingly probably the most excepting of me being gay. I'd kind of hope for the sake of his children. Ten adopted children and five of them aren't straight, and he could care less as long as they don't bleach the Bible. I am not a very religious person, but I don't care as long as no one forces their beliefs on me, and so far no one has.

"So Brendon how was your day?"

"It was good, but I didn't have my folder because someone took it." I was obviously joking, but Denis was oblivious and didn't pick up on that. "I didn't do it on purpose, you bitch!"

"Denis say sorry then go to your room right now! That kind of attitude is not tolerated here. I'll come up there after dinner. You're to young to say those kind of words."

He threw his spoon down and got it all over the table causing my sister to start crying. That girl cried at every little thing I swear. To be fair, I was probably like that when I was her age.

Dad put his hands over his face and sighed. "Can we just have one decent dinner? Brendon, you can finish eating in your room if you want." He picked up Robin and walked into the kitchen to clean her up and calm her down. I felt bad for the guy. He is always there for us and gave up being a restauranteur so he could take care of us kids and so mom could work. He always helps us with homework and puts up with so much for the benefit of others.

I took my plate and bowl upstairs and sat down in front of the desktop. I grabbed my headphones and started to play my signature playlist for decoding and homework in general. Since I got a lot of my homework done in study hall, all I had left was to study for a chemistry II test tomorrow. I'll do it before bed.

I put the thing Spencer sent me into a google doc on my computer so I could have it on my desktop. I guess the first thing I should do is put it through a code finder. If you copy and paste whatever you want to identify it will tell you what code it is and then you can pretty easily decipher it.

I put it in and out came the confirmation that it was Templar Cipher. What the hell? Out of all of them, they choose Templar. Even after it was translated, I still didn't know what to do with it. Did the program glitch, because this is just a bunch of numbers. Maybe it was an URL? No, that doesn't make sense. Maybe it was the numbers embedded in an image that makes it up? I'll try the later.

I put it together, and slowly the pixels appeared. The image slowly came too. I can't believe it. No, that has to be a coincidence, right? What was the hell happening? This can't be real; this has to be a dream.

I felt my anxiety bubbling over and felt like I could be sick at any moment. This has to be a practical joke set up by Spencer. If this is real why is Spencer even associated with these kinds of people, but right now those people seemed like monsters that hid behind computer screens toying with people.

The image was my address and a picture of the outside of my house.

I had something to put here but I forgot. Also sorry if this book seems rushed, I'm trying to make updates as fast as possible. (May not seem like it, but I write a lot for school, too.) The ending is really shitty sorry about that. I made an alternate plot line and now I can't decide where the story is going.

Any questions or suggestions?

Do you like how Brendon interacts with his family?

Do you think Spencer set this up to scare Brendon?

How has your day been?
