When I was little I remember playing on a swing we had in our garden. I remember swinging too far back. And I fell off the wooden swing and fell on my back. The hard impact knocked the air out of my lungs. I couldn't breathe.

That's how I was feeling right now.

My eyes widened. I felt my vision getting blurry. I started to panic. A few seconds later I could breathe again.

"Is that really necessary?" I asked.

My mom looked at me with sad eyes.

"You know it's tradition," she said sadly.

"But how will I fall in love in such a short period of time?" I asked.

She looked at me with pity.

I wasn't going to fall in love.

"Are you going to send me to another kingdom?" I asked horrified.

"No. That's usually how it is but... " she said.

"But what? What haven't you guys told me?" I asked.

"We are holding a competition for your hand in marriage," she stated.

A competition?

"Am I a prize to be won?" I asked angrily.

"It's a competition but you're the judge," she said.

"So how does the competition work?" I asked.

"We will send out letters to all eligible young men between the ages of 16-24. Then they fill out a form and return it to us. After three weeks a public drawing is held where 30 young men will be chosen randomly," my mother said.

"What if they don't want to marry me?" I asked.

"Then they don't have to fill out the form," she pointed out.

"And... when are the letters going to be sent out?" I asked.

"In two days," she stated.

I took a deep breathe and went looking for my brother.

I found him talking to a guard.

"...So the best strategy is to surround them when that happens—" Noah was saying.

"Noah I need to talk to you," I interrupted.

"Excuse me Mr Von," he stated.

We walked away from the guard.

"Noah. Moms holding a competition for my hand in marriage," I rushed out.

"What?!" He exclaimed.

"She holding a competition for my—"

"No I get what you said. But how could she do that to you?" He asked.

"I know. I know. But she and dad have agreed on it," I said sadly.

"Aw I'm so sorry Adaline," he responded.

Noah gave me a hug. I put my chin on his shoulder.

"I won't fall in love," I said.

"Adaline you can still fall in love," Noah stated.

"You don't know that," I exclaimed.

"Your majesty?" Jack asked.
