Devin's POV
I leaned in and our lips connected for an intensifying kiss and then we pulled apart.
"Just all up on me. Any reason to kiss me." I joked.
"Uh uh. You kissed me." She smiled.
We broke off into conversations asking each other questions as we walked hand in hand down the beach.
"How long have you been playing soccer?"
"Since 4, so about 13 years." I answered.
"You must be good." She looked up at me.
"Good? Girl I'm a beast. You should come to my next game so I can show you how real soccer is played."
"Oh please." She pushed me. "But I'll come see you."
The whole time, my phone kept vibrating in my pocket. I wasn't sure if Vernell could hear it but it was annoying.
I could barely pay attention to the conversation with Vernell.
I finally pulled out my phone when Vernell went to the shore.
20 Missed Calls from Mom and 4 text messages from Mom
Come home please. 4:38
It's an emergency. 4:45
They're here again Dev. 4:59
Hurry. 5:09"Are you ok?" I looked up and Vernell was standing there.
"Yeah. My mom got in a car accident a week ago and injured her knee for the while. A neighbor was supposed to be watching her but she left suddenly so I have to go check up on her." I lied.
She gasped. "Why would you leave her like that? We could've stayed somewhere in the area. Devin, oh my gosh."
"She insisted that I leave when I told her about our date." I rubbed my hand down my face.
Vernell's POV
"Um I had a great day today. I never thought I'd go back to Poetic Justice but you made that possible." I said as soon as we got in front of my house.
"Anything for you. I hope you found inspiration to finish your poem."
"I think I did. Thank you."
"Come on. Let me walk you up." We intertwined hands and I swear I saw a light flash at us.
"Oh my gosh." I shook my head.
"What?" Devin asked.
"My dad. Do you not see him peeking through the blinds?"
"Cute." He remarked and laughed.
"No it's not. Come on sit with me on the porch chair." I dragged him and he chuckled.
"I guess I'll see your beautiful face Monday?"
I blushed. "Yeah."
Devin's POV
I leaned in and her father opened the window making me pull back before our lips could even touch. Instead I hugged her.
