Vernell's POV

"Have you started thinking about the college you want to go to?" Dad asked as we sat on the private jet.

"Yes but I'm not that serious because I have another year left."

"It's never too early to start planning your life." Dad said.

"I don't know. I want a good education but I don't want to go to a high prestigious college." I used my hand for emphasis.

"That's not a problem caterpillar. You know I have the money to fund that."

"That's not it. I want to be able to see the world more. I go to a private school and I've always been a good girl but like mom used to say, you compliment yourself and fix your flaws. I'm too spoiled and I need to see the world without its riches.

Daddy just kissed my forehead. "How did I raise a smart girl like you?"

I smiled widely. I'm never too old for daddy's kisses, hugs, or compliments. I'm a child at heart who needs to grow up.

"I want you to know that you're mom is very proud of you. She's looking down and smiling." Daddy opened a business magazine.

"Thank you. Having you to remind me of how much she's still here with me brightens my day." I touched the necklace around my neck. I never left the house without wearing it. It was an essential part to my outfit

"Anything for my caterpillar." Daddy mushed my head.

We talked about my future, grades, and even about my writing.

The plane ride didn't last long. From L.A. to Oakland was only an hour and a half long. It was only an hour long but I took the first 30 minutes to talk to dad and the other 30 to sleep.

"Wake up caterpillar."

Dadddy shook me softly and I pulled out my phone looking at the time.

10:45 am

We still had time to get settled before his meeting.

The chauffeur moved our bags from the plane to the car.

"Where to sir?" He asked as soon as we sat in the car.

"Four Seasons please." Daddy responded politely.

"Yes sir."

"Daddy I'm hungry." I said.

"I told you to eat before we got on the plane Vernell." Daddy scolded.

"I know but I wasn't hungry then. I am now." I pouted.

"Your mother used to drive me crazy doing that. But come on we'll stop at Denny's or IHOP."

"Ooooh daddy. Who you all dressed up for?"

"This meeting." Daddy sighed.

I slept most of the way here in the plane so now I was hyper and kept bothering dad. By now he was annoyed with me but oh well. I refused to stay in my room so here I am watching him put on his tie.

"Mhmmmm whatever." I cheesed.

"How do I look?" He asked me.

"You look just fine for your meeting." I smiled.

"Good." He grabbed his portfolio and phone.

"Be careful Vernell. I prefer you stay in here but I know you. You want to go swimming, go eat, go explore and that other stuff you do. Just be careful and keep your phone on you at all times. If something happens to my caterpillar, I don't know what I'll do."
