Evaline:
Propping my legs carelessly on Chase's office desk, we were arguing over the best coloured eyes. I said brown because of my own and Chase went with green.
"Brown is natu-rall" I twanged stupidly
"Green is mysterious" he said wiggling his eyebrows
With that we abruptly burst into fits of laughter. Feeling my eyes tear I warned
"We definitely have problems"
"Tell me something I don't know" he said shaking his head
After moments of silence Chase picked my mind
"You know, we've never officially met the boss"
"All I know is that I used to school with him or her. But I don't know who it is" I pointed out.
"But hey, school was years back" he reasoned.
Three years to be exact. Chase was my bestfriend for seven years total, roommate for four and colleague at Haines Corp. for three. Striking brown hair and stunning blue eyes. Well me? Brown eyes with slits of black in them and my silky smooth hazel hair spoke for itself. What more? I hate to be controlled and I've fallen in love twice in my life. Once with a triple decker pizza, and the other with a man.
Through all that, it clicked! Out of the few years here, I didn't know my boss, but let's just say I did, would he or she remember me? I was highly curious.
Snapping out of everything, I looked at my watch and screamed
"WE'RE LATE! THE PRESENTATION!?!"
Chase shuffled around me to find our work file, to no avail we decided to pick the presentation from our memory, hoping I'd manage. All we had to do was tell the board members about the new billboard for the company and that was it.
Walking into the boardroom, I displayed the final art on each members seat.
As they all settled down, I began..
"So. We want something fresh and neat. How about, this building as the background and our logo at the top. This is a very mast empire songs people will know where to go in terms of jobs and whatnot" I waved off
"Or. We can go corporate and fancy with, all the board members at the entrance and the sign of the building in the middle, representing the CEO." Chase suggested next.
"Allow us to cast a vote" I announced nervously. This vote held my life. Whoever won would get Oreo cookie ice-cream for the month and I needed that. Crossing my fingers, each member lifted their hand for whichever they favoured.
Thanking my lucky stars, I lifted a peace sign towards Chase, indicating how I won against his dumb ass.
Walking out of the boardroom, I nudged him playfully and he wasn't amused. Laughing in his face I reminded him how I expected ice-cream every Friday for the whole month which had just begun. Oh, this was great.
"Chase? Was the boss there at the meeting?"
"You never know" he shrugged
"His or her seat was empty today."
"This is puzzling! I wanna know who it is!" Chase whined
"I just wish I could creep into the CEO's office!"
As if somebody heard me...the receptionist,Jane peeked in Chase's office, telling me that the boss wanted to see me as soon as possible. Feeling my stomach jitter.. I stood up with caution and walked past Jane.
"Tell me the juicy details when you get back" she whispered as I strided down the hallway.
So established, this was probably a male..
I knocked ever so gently on his door and I heard a response.
"Come in"
I pushed the door open and I was met with him far before me. I didn't see his face straight away, but the thought was gripping.
His legs were beneath his desk as his elbows were propped on it. The daily newspaper covered his face and I cleared my throat.
"Oh. Great" he said as he rolled the paper and put it to the side. His forestry orbs shone through those glasses. My jaw dropped as his face jogged memories, I knew him. I knew him awfully well. He was that senior every girl wanted, he was the senior you couldn't help but pay attention to. Realizing that I was staring for too long I finally spoke.
"You wanted to see me" I said, pursing my lips together
"Yes. Yes. Please. Take a seat" he smiled. I sat down and watched him fixate his attention on me. Throwing a pool of self consciousness.
"I wanted to apologize for what happened in the boardroom. I never attend"
"It's fine Sir I d-"
"Sir?! Is that what three years and a few months has done to you Evaline?" he cunningly asked. I gulped hard as I blinked, trying to answer.
"U-hm. I don't know what to say"
"My name is a start" he said humorlessly. I forced a smile
"Well you've never attended. So it's alright." I shrugged
"I hate sitting at a table for a long time. Old habits do die hard" he winked
And so do your looks..
"My looks??" he asked puzzled. HE HEARD THAT? Kill me. Now.
"Huh?" I said dumbfounded
"Evaline" he chuckled with realization
"Mr Haines" I replied nervously
"Oh my goodness. I'm no god. Use my name!" he nagged
"Absolutely not" I mocked respectively
Before he could retort. His phone rang.
"Haines Corp. Hello?"
"Uhhhh hmm. I see"
"7 it is. I'll be launching my line then. Thank you. Oh. Now?.." he trailed. Seemingly like this was gonna be a long conversation. He looked at me apologetically as I let myself out. I stopped at the door, seeing he had held on to the caller.
"Hey Xander!" I shouted from behind the door. His head shot up so fast I swear he had strained it.
"Have a nice day", I said closing the door, not forgetting to wink at him before I left.
Oh. And about the best coloured eyes, I think I agree with Chase...
