Part Twenty Nine - Crisis

Thirty years and nothing to show
Coming home with nowhere to go
Our aunt and uncle take us in
But there's six of us and three of them.
That puts a strain on everyone.
How would we cope? What should be done?
We're too crammed in. We can not stay.
There has to be another way.
We can't get on the Council list.
You've not lived here they all insist.
Aunt's on the phone she does her best
But we are cuckoos in her nest.
We're getting on each other's nerves
It isn't what my dad deserves.
We plead, we argue, we entreat.
Council won't help till we're on the street.
It seems our case will lack conviction
Unless we're threatened with eviction.
They have to say they'll throw us out.
Everyone's stressed there is no doubt.
They say the girls must go in care.
Mum doesn't want her daughters there.
Things by now are very fraught,
Emotions high and tempers short.
We don't know what we're going to do
But thankfully a way's found through.
Somehow our uncle pulls some strings
Not sure how but he sorted things.
They will give us a Council house
A home for Will, his kids and spouse.
We're off to live near Aldershot.
We started there, lest you forgot.
