Part 31- Promise.
Song for this chapter: Between The Rain Drops- Lifehouse.
Elsie's POV:
(Okay guys, little author's note. You seriously have to listen to the song during this chapter. Like, it's not even an option. It literally makes the chapter. Okay, enjoy!)
"This rain really sucks." I sighed, leaning my head against the window of the tour bus.
"That's London." Michael said, coming up and kissing my cheek on his way to the kitchen area.
"What are you guys doing on our day off?" Calum asked, plopping down next to me.
"I'm taking Elsie out." Michael said, grabbing a pen and scribbling something down on a slip of paper.
"Where?" I asked looking up at him.
"It's a surprise." He said, sending a wink towards me before he walked towards the back of the bus.
"Well he's very secretive today." Calum said, laughing at me.
"I hate surprises."

"Michael, this blindfold is really unnecessary." I commented, fiddling with the seam of my black dress.
"Oh, you'll get over it." He laughed, his hand resting on my lower back, guiding me to wherever we were going.
The tip of my black boots caught the edge of a tree root, causing me to stumble, and I heard Michael laugh.
"You're such a klutz." His laugh was airy, and I could feel it on my neck.
"And you're a jerk." I said, my cheeks turning pink.
"Okay, we're here." He said, as we finally stopped moving.
"Can I look?"
"Yes."
I blinked my eyes a few time to get adjusted to the light, and things came into focus.
It was like a secret oasis. Trees shielding all sides but one, which had a sudden drop off, with a clear view of the lake below us. Fairy lights hung from the trees in the middle, lighting up a black blanket, with a small basket.
"Michael," I whispered, putting my hand over my mouth, tears pricking my eyes.
"Happy anniversary." He said, happily smiling down at me.
"Anniversary?" I asked, confused.
"Exactly six months ago I asked the girl of my dreams to be mine." He said, shyly.
"Oh, Mikey, I didn't get you anything! I feel so bad." I said, feeling terrible that I hadn't thought of it.
"I don't want anything. I have everything I could ever want right in front of me." He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"Now come on, I brought cupcakes."
I took a seat on the blanket, Michael next to me. He pulled a plate of cupcakes out and a bag of jelly beans.
"Oh my god you brought jelly beans!?" I asked, instantly reaching for them.
"Yeah, I remembered they're your favorite." He smiled, grabbing a cupcake.
"Thank you." I leaned forward and kissed his cheek.
"Guess the flavor." I said, bringing one towards his mouth to eat it.
"Uhm," he chewed a bit, and then smiled, "Juicy pear."
"Good job. Lily hates that one, for some reason."
"Here." Michael handed me his cupcake to take a bite of.
"Oh my god, is that red velvet? That's my favorite." I said, wiping the frosting from my upper lip.
"Mine, too." He smirked, taking a bite.
After a few more rounds of "Guess The Flavor" I laid on my back, my curly hair sprawling around my head like a red crown. Michael laid next to me grabbing my hand, his fingers ghostly tracing mine. The stars twinkled against the black sky like the city lights. Michael was watching me closely and I felt my cheeks burn.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like I'm the most beautiful thing you've ever seen."
"Because you are."
A moment of silence passed before he smiled at me.
Elsie, I have something for you." He said, rolling over leaning on his elbow and he pulled something out of his pocket.
"I love you so much. And I wanted to show you that I'll always be here, and you can trust me. So," he opened his hand, showing me a small red metal ring, making my heart race, "This is a promise ring. If you accept it, it means that I promise that I will love you forever, until a different ring can replace this one. Because I know I love you so much, and one day I hope you'll let me call you mine forever. I promise to always love you. To the moon and back."
Tears fell freely from my eyes, and looked up at Michael, meeting his green eyes. I felt my heart swell with every possible feeling you could think of. Love and admiration and truth.
"Yes." Was all I could say. And though the idea of marriage and children and growing up scared me, I could see a future with Michael. I wanted nothing more then to be by his side, for everything.
"I promise, too, that I'll only ever love you. And I'll stay by you for everything." I said, putting my hands on each side of his face. He smiled, pulling my left one off so he could slide the ring on my finger.
"I love you, so much." He said, leaning down and connecting our lips.
And then I felt the wet drops, falling on my forehead and arms.
"It's raining!" I giggled, pulling away.
"Come on, let's go." He hurriedly said, pulling me to my feet.
(Seriously if you aren't listening to the song dO IT NOW!)
"No, wait." I looked up at him, the raindrops making his hair stick to his forehead. "Dance with me."
And we were gliding. Our feet matching an unheard beat. Our foreheads together, his hands on my waist, mine draped over his shoulders. After I stumbled a few times, he lifted me up, slightly, and set me down so my feet were on top of his.
I hid my face in his neck to cover my blushing cheeks, and I smiled to myself.
I felt the rain make lines down the exposed skin on my back, and warmth spread every time Michael's fingers touched my waist.
"Look around, there's no one but you and me. Right here and now, the way it was meant to be." Michael's voice was smooth and I closed my eyes, pulling my hands up to the back of his neck, playing with the ends of it as I listened to him sing.
"There's a smile on my face, knowing that together everything that's in our way. We're better than alright."
His feet carried us to the beat of the song he was singing.
"Walking between the raindrops, riding the aftershock beside you, off into the sunset. Living like there's nothing left to lose. Chasing after gold mines, crossing the fine lines we knew."
I kept my eyes closed, remembering everything from the rare moment. The coldness of the rain, the warmth of being next to Michael, the soft beat of his heart against mine, the sound of his voice floating off into the empty air, a secret world behind the trees.
"Hold on and take a breath, I'll be here every step, walking between the raindrops with you."
