They both laughed. Genuinely happy.
"Ok. I don't care. You can make up any rules. I'm just glad your here right now."
Nathan kissed her. After what seemed like forever, they finally broke apart, but it was just to take a breath.
"I'm glad your back.."
"Yeah.... Me too.."
"So-"
"Yes."
"You didn't even get to hear my question!"
"Do I really need too? Seriously?"
"Fine. Fine. Physic much?"
"Very."
Emma winked. Nathan laughed and smiled. That's the girl he loved and cared for, so much.
A couple days later, Emma was finally able to be sent home from the hospital.
"Finally. Fresh air and real food."
She sighed. She arrived at her house. Her parents were gone. Probably some business trip.
"EMMA EMMA EMMA EMMA EMMAAAAAA!"
Alana ran down and tripped on the way down the stairs. She attacked Emma with a hug.
"YOU'RE FINALLY BACK! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!"
Emma laughed.
"Hey, Hey, Hey! I missed you too."
"I put all your gifts and stuff in your room."
"Thanks."
She winked.
"I'll get us something to eat."
Emma watched as Alana walked into the kitchen. She slowly walked back upstairs to her room. Sure enough, a bunch of gifts and flowers were there. She laughed quietly. She went to her desk. She picked up a book. The Book Thief. The blade still there where she left it. Small drops of blood still scattered her desk. She picked up the blade. Emma paused and stared at her arm. Her hand hovered over her arm, the blade in her fingertips. She touched the end of the blade. Smooth and sharp. She saw little drops of blood rise to her finger. Her cuts haven't healed yet. She took off the bandages covering her arms. She took the blade and begun to cut again. 'It's the only way out other than death...' she thought. Her eyes strayed to some photos on her desk. It was a picture of Her, Nathan, and Alana. She remembered the fun years before. She looked at the picture next to it. Her and Nathan. Her hand stopped cutting. Emma took the picture and smiled sadly. She started to cut again, with the picture still in hand. She heard footsteps going up the stairs. She quickly covered her arms with new bandages.
"Aww! What a cute picture! You two are so adorable."
"Oh? Haha... Thanks.."
She set down a plate of food. Emma's phone buzzed. She picked up her phone.
Hey... So about that date?
