SONG: Burna Boy- Ye

Theo looked at himself in the long length mirror that stood in the middle of his room. His wall was bare and white his duvet covers and pillows snow white. Everything was where it was meant to be, nothing out of place. Everything in his room had a practical purpose. A lamp on the white wooden side table for late-night studying. A wastebasket, one black rug at the foot of his bed. Some books that were neatly stacked on a table that sat close to the window that overlooked out onto the street. Moon had got him several posters over the past four years but he would always keep them in his drawer in mint condition. As far as he was concerned beauty and emotion were trivial and only served one purpose...they made you weak.

Theo inhaled and lowered his body towards the floor until his bare chest was almost touching the hardwood floor. His chocolate dark hair rushed to his face and covered his forehead and most of his face. He exhaled blowing some of the strands out of his face as he pushed himself back up until his arms were fully extended. With each push up he could feel his muscles aching but it only made him push himself even faster. He kept his body straight and didn't let his hips sag down.

Beads of sweat were lining his brow and dripping onto the floor, his face was scrunched up in concentration as he kept pushing. His vivid baby blue eyes stared right back at him. He hated them, they were just like hers, a reminder of nothing but disappointment.

"Theo are you ready yet, we don't want to be late..." Nikki said coming into Theo's room, her voice trailed when she realized that he wasn't ready.

"Told you I'm not going..." Theo replied, his voice sounding breathy, he paused looking at Nikki but not coming out of his exercise position.

"Theodore Patron, you will only graduate high school once. Get your ass in the shower and meet me downstairs. Fifteen minutes!" Nikki retorted ignoring Theo completely.

"This is bullshit!" Theo muttered getting up.

"I heard that," Nikki shouted back as she walked away. There was no way she would allow Theo to miss his own graduation no matter how much he protested, she thought. Theo had already gone through pain and seen things that many people would never see in a lifetime. The day she and Moon had taken him when he was fourteen then and he had become like a younger brother to her.

"Youngblood!" Moon boomed coming up the stairs two at a time, the gold chains he had around his neck bounced up and down and jingled.

"Where's Theo?" Moon asked immediately when he saw Nikki standing on the staircase landing.

"I'm well too thank you Montreol..." Nikki replied crossing her arms at her chest.

"I'm sorry babe..." Moon answered a huge smile plastered on his face as he grabbed Nikki by the waist and kissed her all over her face until she started giggling. Her shrills of laughter began to fill the entire house.

"Moon you called..." Theo said clearing his throat.

"Yeah, I called. We got business to take care of." Moon proclaimed wrapping his arms around Nikki's waist, nuzzling on her neck.

"Moon not today. It's his graduation..." Nikki objected coming out of Moon's embrace. Moon went over to Theo and put his arm on his shoulder.

"You remember how I told you that one day I want you to be right by my side when I take over this whole joint. Well, today is that day..." Moon reminded looking at Theodore, he watched as the boy nodded and he smiled. He knew he was ready. The boy had proved himself these past four years, had a good brain on him too. Moon reached behind the waistband of his pants and handed Theo a 22'.

Theo felt the cold steel weigh down in his hand. Moon had taught him how to use it but he had not allowed him to carry one before.

"Youngblood...you know what this means right..." Moon chided.

"When I draw the gun, I accept the responsibility that someone might die by my hand..." Theo recited knowing he fully accepted and believed every word he had said. Moon nodded and smiled down at the boy who had become like a brother to him.

"Moon, take me instead. Let Theo have one more day..." Nikki offered walking towards the two men.

"Listen, mama, the boy is ready. It's time, besides..." Moon trailed off as Nikki interrupted him.

"But it's his graduation, Moon." Nikki chided, her eyes pleading with Moon. This life wasn't for Theo, once you took a life there was no turning back. It would be yet another demon on his shoulders and Nikki didn't want that for Theo.

"Nikki enough, Theo is a grown man, he's not a boy. He knows this is our life. This is who we are!" Moon bellowed, sometimes Nikki wanted to act like Theodore was a child. But this was why he had brought him and taken him in. He had molded Theo to become his right-hand man, the kind of man he could trust with his life.

"I'm ready Nikki...this is what I want," Theodore said with a cold calmness tucking the Glock in the band of his jeans.

Theo felt like he was carrying fifty pounds of steel in his hand, all he could see in the enclosed walls of the club office basement was the nuzzle of the gun on Montreol's temple. Montreol's eyes were wide open as he struggled to breathe the arm wrapped tightly around his neck choking him and cutting off oxygen. Theo knew what he needed to do. What had meant to be a simple negotiation had just taken a turn for the worst. Theo wondered had Montreol known things would come to this otherwise why would he have given him the gun.

"Just put the gun down and walk out of here, my business is with Moon, not you." The guy holding the gun to Moon's head said looking right at Theo. Theo knew there was no way he would be walking out of here alive the other dead bodies in the oriental-inspired office were a testament to that.

"Youngblood..." Montreol said breathlessly completely at the mercy of his capturer and Theodore the young man he had found on the street.

"Let Montreol go...I'm not leaving without him," Theo said his voice higher-pitched than usual. he felt the beads of sweat lining his brow drip. There was a shuffling sound from behind Moon's capturer and for just an instant he was distracted. Moon took the opportunity and sent his elbow deep into his midsection. Theodore didn't hesitate and he fired. He watched the bullet move through the air and he knew just like that, without a doubt that he had made his first kill.
