She hated blind dates but little did she know this would be her last.

Her very slight sigh in annoyance was very audible across the table as he looked up at her.

"We don't need to do this. I can always go." He fidgeted with his napkin knowing his presence was forced upon an unwilling girl.

"You're fine I guess. I mean, I'll never hear the end of this if I leave now."

"Don't push this on you." He cleared his throat to break the awkward silence that soon fell upon them. "Have you read the news lately?" He panicked to bring a topic that would peak her interest.

"No." She shot his opportunity down quickly and he looked into his lap.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced over at her lazily swirling her straw in her drink, making the ice clink against the glass. He looked down back at his phone when he searched on the internet. 'How to impress a girl' which he pressed against the screen to confirm his choice.

Step 1 read as 'Dress to impress.' He thought about his clothing choice and her attitude to him the entire. He had second doubts about the outfit he purchased for this sole reason and had no intent on wearing it again. Doubt crept up his spine when she looked at him.

"You're on your phone? How charming." She sneered in slight disgust.

'Great. Negative ten points for me.' He thought when his phone vibrated indicating that he received a text. It was from the girl's best friend.

'Hey James! How is the date going with Nia? I hope you're hitting it off~'

'By hitting it off, I hope you mean hitting all my chances away. She hates me.'

'OH NO THAT CAN'T HAPPEN! I'LL BE YOUR INSIDER! Hehe leave it to me~ Ask anything you need to know!'

He peered over at her once more and bit his bottom lip.

'What does she enjoy to talk about?'

'Bring up writing. She is very passionate about being an author.'

"Hey. Do you enjoy reading or writing?"

He noticed a change in her body language. Almost such as a puppy perking its ears when their attention is caught. She nodded slightly in a way that sent mixed signals to him. She hoped he didn't think he got to her so easily.

"In fact I do. It took you long enough to perk my interest. Slightly." She rolled her eyes and he focused back onto his phone.

He continued to read the steps. Step two was to be polite. He noticed his behaviour was not of the most chivalrous or one to brag upon. Step three was make sure that he was to think and analyze his words before he spoke them. Step four, pay her a sincere compliment.

"Are you a camera?" He attempted to make her smile which failed miserably.

"Excuse me?"

"I mean. Every time I look at you, I can't help but smile."

Silence was prominent between the two when her face softened and her lips pressed into a thin lipped smile. Her cheeks then filled with air and her content could no longer be kept tame when her laugh rang through the cafe.

"God dammit.''

'My text failed to send to you earlier but she is one for cheesy pick up lines or puns.' His phone notified him before he celebrated his victory.
