"Why is it so hot in here" said Hailey fanning herself with the first thing she could get her hand.
She brought it to her face and continued fanning then stop to look at it when she realized it was one of the envelopes with a college acceptance letter. She tossed it across the room and groaned.
"It actually feels OK in here. It must your pregnancy hormones" said Claudia sympathetically.
"I miss sleeping on my stomach. Everything I use to like I can't even keep it down. And I have to be eating all these healthy foods. I can't wait to have these babies" Hailey complained
"Somebody's grumpy today" said Claudia
"I've been grumpy everyday for the past week. And with my dad always in a bad mood it just automatically ticks me off. I actually yelled at him for asking me why I was eating a snickers. According to him too much sweet isn't good for me or the babies" Hailey replied
"Well he's not wrong" said Claudia chuckling
"Don't you start too!" Hailey exclaimed
"Remind me never to get pregnant. These hormone makes you crazy" Claudia replied
"I'm so sorry. I'm just frustrated" said Hailey
"Still no word from James?" Asked Claudia
"Nope. Its almost the end of summer and still no call or letter. I even check my email. Still nothing. What if he changed his mind about being with me? Or what if he met someone there?" Said Hailey as a sob escaped from her throat.
Claudia took her hand and gently brushed her hair away from her face.
"You can't think like that OK. Maybe his training just has him out at sea longer than he expected" said Claudia
"Oh God what if something happened to him!" Hailey exclaimed
"Nothing wrong with him" said Claudia
"How do you know?" Asked Hailey
She looked at Claudia as her face grew red and she couldn't make eye contact with her.
"You know something don't you?" Said Hailey
"Hailey..."
"Tell me" said Hailey
"Hailey don't worry about James OK. Just focus on you and the babies. They're all that should matter" Claudia replied
"Tell me what you know!" Hailey demanded
Claudia sighed and turned to her.
"Christopher mentioned that he's spoken to James a few times. The last time he spoke to him Christopher asked how things are with you guys and James said..."
"What did he say?" Hailey pressed
"James told him not to mention your name to him ever again" Claudia replied
Hailey looked at her friend in shock.
"Why would he say that?" Hailey asked in a soft hurt tone.
"I don't know. I told Christopher to ask him what his problem is but he said he didn't want to risk getting James upset. I can't tell him you're pregnant because you don't want anyone to know" Claudia replied
Hailey walked over to her dresser and looked in the mirror then started crying.
"I didn't want to tell you anything because I don't want you stressing over this you have enough on your plate" said Claudia
"I just don't understand. In my mind I thought he would come home and be shocked at first to see me with the twins then he would propose to me like he promised" Hailey replied
"You don't need someone that doesn't need you" said Claudia
"I can't be a single parent. Summer is over. You're leaving for school next week I won't have anyone to support me" Hailey replied
"You have your family" said Claudia
"If you haven't noticed I'm kind of the black sheep in the family right now. I've disgraced the Giordano name" said Hailey sarcastically
"You're not a disgrace Hailey. You can't think like that. Your family is shocked and in denial right now. Just give them time." Claudia encouraged her.
"Time? What time? At the rate these two are growing they'll be here before I get to nine months!" Hailey exclaimed
"Hailey don't sell yourself short OK? You're much stronger than you think. I know this isn't going how you want it and this isn't how you wanted your life to go but it is what it is now. Don't let the pressure of it pull you under" said Claudia
"That's easy for you to say. You're not the one going through this" Hailey replied
"That's true. But Hailey we've been best friends long enough for me to know you're a strong willed person. When life throws you lemons you usually have it with a shot of tequila and enjoy the ride. Don't give up on life now. They need you. You're all they've got at the end of the day. Nothing beats a mothers love" said Claudia
Hailey looked down at her baby bump and rubbed her belly. She knew her friend was right. No matter how scary it is getting pregnant right out of highschool its not the end of the world. A baby can slow your life down but it doesn't have to stop it.
"I'm going to miss you when you leave for college next week" said Hailey smiling at Claudia
"I know. I'm going to miss you too. I was looking forward to being your roommate. I hope whoever gets assigned to room with me can tolerate my crazy love for Spanish music and the smell of my fruity candles" said Claudia
"They'll be stupid not to like you. Just don't forget about us" Hailey replied looking at her stomach again.
"That won't ever happen. You're one unforgettable human being. Beside you won't ever let me forget. I'll come see you every chance I get" said Claudia
"I really miss him" said Hailey
"I know you do" Claudia replied
"But I'll love these babies no matter what. They didn't ask to be here. Least I can do is do right by them. I've got this" said Hailey
