"I got here as fast as I could. What's going on? You sounded panicked on the phone. Is this about James again? Sweetie its been two months you have to learn to cope with this" said Claudia as she rushed into Hailey's room and sat next to her on the bed.
"My life is over" Hailey sobbed into the pillow that she was holding.
"No its not Hailey. I know you miss him but he will be back. I'm sure you'll hear from him any day now" said Claudia
"Its not about missing James OK!" Hailey snapped as she got up from the bed
"OK so what's going on?" Asked Claudia
Hailey marched over to her door and closed her room door then she went to stand by her window and folded her hands.
"Hailey you're starting to scare me" said Claudia going to stand by Hailey by the window.
"Its in there" said Hailey repeatedly pointing to her bathroom.
"What's in there?" Asked Claudia
"Go see for yourself" Hailey replied
Claudia slowly started walking towards the bathroom then she stopped to pick up a shoe. She held it over her head ready to swing at whatever it was that had scared Hailey in the bathroom. When she stepped into the bathroom she didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Just as she turned to walk out of the bathroom she saw it sitting on the sink.
"Oh my God" she whispered. She slowly walked towards it then grabbed a Kleenex and reached for it. Her hands shook as she took it and tossed it into the trash.
"That won't make it go away" Hailey said from behind her.
Claudia turned and wrapped Hailey into a tight hug as she cried. She couldn't hold back as her tears escaped down her cheeks as well.
"What am I going to do?" Hailey sobbed
"I don't know but whatever you decided I'm right here" Claudia replied
"I don't understand how this could happen. I haven't been with anyone since James left two months ago and I got my period right after we had sex. How can I be pregnant? My father is going to kill me!" Hailey exclaimed
"For your sake I hope to God that was just a sick joke!" came Jonathan's angry voice from the door.
They turned and saw him standing in the doorway with April by his side with a shocked expression on her face.
"Dad..."
"What do you mean you're pregnant!?" Johnathan asked angrily as he stood glaring at Hailey
"I'm sorry" Hailey whispered
"You're sorry? You're sorry? Do you think saying you're sorry is going to fix this mess!" He yelled getting even more angry.
April put her hand on his back in a calming motion. He took a deep breath then sighed.
"Who's the father?" Asked Johnathan in a cool tone.
"James" Hailey softly replied twisting her fingers together in a nervous action.
"James? So you've been pregnant all this time and you've said nothing!" Johnathan exclaimed
"I didn't know I was pregnant! I just took a test this morning when I realized I haven't had my period since right before James left" Hailey replied
"Hailey you told me you are a Virgin" said Johnathan
"I was at the time you asked" Hailey replied
"So you went and had sex with this boy that's off making something of his life while you're here throwing away your own" said Johnathan in a cool tone.
"Honey that's enough. I think you should calm down before you say something else you can't take back" April warned
Johnathan looked at Hailey then shook his head before walking out of the room.
April walked over to Hailey and pulled her into a hug.
"I don't think you're ready for this but there's nothing we can do about it now except help you through this. First we will need to get you checked out. College is obviously out of the picture for now but we will take this one step at a time" said April
Hailey nodded and went to sit on the edge of her bed when April left.
"Have you heard from James?" Claudia asked from the window where she was still standing.
"I got a call from him last month. He said they would be out at sea so he wasn't sure when he would get to call again" Hailey replied
"You have to tell him" said Claudia
"He's not ready to be a father. He's going to freak out on me" Hailey replied
"You can't know that unless you talk to him so talk to him. He has a right to know" said Claudia
"I don't know how to be a mother. I can barely mane pancakes" Hailey wailed
"You'll learn and you'll be great" said Claudia
"And what about money. I'll have to get a job. I'm sure my dad is going to kick me out. You saw how disappointed and angry he was" said Hailey covering her face with her hands
"I'll do whatever I can to help" Claudia replied
"I love you but there's not much else you can offer but moral support. You're about to leave for college. Please don't say anything to anyone especially Christopher" Hailey pleaded
"I won't" Claudia replied
"I mean it. No matter what do not say anything" said Hailey in a sterned tone.
"You know I won't. You're going to get through this. I know it looks bad now and I know you must be so scared but you'll always have people around that loves and supports you. Your father might be upset now but he will come around. And you know your uncle Jason has a soft spot for you. He won't ever give up on you" Claudia encouraged her.
Hailey put her hand on her stomach and closed her eyes as fresh tears strolled down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry I didn't wait. I'm sorry I'm bringing you into the world without planning for you but I promise not to fail you like I've failed everyone else" said Hailey rubbing her hand over her still flat stomach.
Claudia walked over to her and hugged her as she cried until she drifted into exhausted sleep.
