Valentine's Day triple update! Enjoy‼
Madeline's POV
"No, you should like totally wear this," I said, holding up turquoise-blue flowy dress.
It was Friday night and I was helping Olivia get ready for a date with Brian.
"No, but I'm feeling like I should wear this," Olivia said, pointing at denim shorts, a black-and-white-striped crop top and a red blazer.
Oh No! She CANNOT. She just can't. Brian told me exactly where he's taking her. And that just doesn't go with the venue. But I can't tell her that.
"Olivia, I have a feeling that this isn't JUST a date. Trust me. Wear the dress."
"Okay. But don't leave just yet. You need to be here till he picks me up."
She put on the dress. It was kind of turquoise lace till mid-chest, then flowed out till the knees, with a brown belt at the bottom of the lace. She paired it with silver earrings and a matching charm bracelet.
She was just beginning with her makeup when the doorbell rang.
"Oh my God!" she said, dropping her hand held mirror, "Go get it! And tell him to wait downstairs. Whatever you do, DON'T LET HIM COME HERE."
"Geez, okay!"
I went downstairs and opened the door.
"Hey O...Maddy." His voice considerably deflating from the 'Hey' to the 'Maddy'.
"Nice to see you too," I said, taking in his suit clad body sweaty hand clutching daisies. That was so thoughtful of him. Daisies were Olivia's favourite.
"Don't you look simply confident!" I remarked after he had walked in and I had locked the door.
Brian narrowed his eyes at me. "Don't joke. There were some mix-up at the last moment, and our reservation ALMOST got cancelled. Like if I hadn't been so nervous and called to recheck the bookings, we would have been embarrassed at the restaurant. Like this is supposed to be the best date Olivia's ever had, not the worst," he rambled, making me feel sorry for him, "God! I'm so nervous!"
"You'll do fine. Trust me. Olivia will love it," I said, hugging him.
We talked till Olivia came down.
"Maddy, do you need a ride back home?" Brian asked.
"No I'm gonna hang around for a couple of hours and then I guess Oliver will drop me home."
"You and Oliver in one house?"
"Yes."
"Is the house insured?"
"Yes."
"And then both of you in the same car?"
"Yes, if you guys are not back by then."
"We won't be. Is the car insured?"
"Yes."
"Okay, be careful and don't do anything that would require the insurance to come into force."
"Oh Gawd okay. Go now. Bye!"
"Bye."
I waved until they got into the car and drove away. Once they were around the street, I locked the door and went to the kitchen looking for something to eat.
As I was searching for edible substances in the fridge, I felt a pair of arms pick me up by my hips and throw me over their shoulder (which was very high up by the way).
"AAAAAAH! PUT ME DOWN!"
"Shhh! It's just me," said Oliver.
"What the HELL are you DOING?"
"Taking you to my room."
I couldn't see him, but I'm pretty sure he was wiggling his eyebrows.
"Umm... I'm not sure I'm ready for that."
"Too I late!" he said putting me down on his bed.
"Wow! Your room is neat," I said getting up.
"Yeah!" said Oliver, indignantly.
I was looking around. One of his walls was covered in movie posters, another one in sticky notes with a quote written on each, and another wall was painted bright red. His bed was smack dab in the middle, pushed towards the wall with the sticky notes, which was opposite from the red wall and the door. But that wasn't what I was looking at. The fourth wall was an entire LIBRARY. Shelves covered the wall from right to left, ceiling to floor and each shelf was filled with books.
"Woah!" I breathed out, running my hands along the spines of the books. It was clear to see that they were loved and well read from the way the covers were tattered, almost artistically. I picked a book randomly, sat right there and started reading. Oliver came and sat on my left and I could feel his eyes on me and a smile on his lips. I turned to him.
"Why are you staring at me?" I demanded.
He shrugged and smiled wider, making his dimples deepen.
"I have to tell you something. I don't care how you react but I'm going to say it. I've been holding back for two years and I can't take it anymore."
"Well say it."
He narrowed his eyes at me.
"Don't sass me Thompson."
"You're not my boss. I enjoy sassing you."
We looked at each other for a few seconds before we realized this was the EXACT gender flipped version of what happened at Starbucks on Monday.
"Did you do that purposely?" There comes that grin again.
"No. And you're deviating from the topic. What did you want to tell me?"
He took the book from my hands saying, "You can have it but right now I don't want any barriers."
He kept the book on his bedside table and before I knew it, I was sitting on his bed, with him beside me.
He took a deep breath and said, "Well, here goes nothing."
