Park Jimin took one last glance at the room, checking if anything was out of place, or if he had forgotten anything. Nope. The room was clean. He continued to take small, measured breaths even after he was driving away from the building and was already on the freeway- he hated how the metallic smell of blood constantly lingered in the air.

He knew the police would never find out who did it, mostly since they were unable to solve "the mysterious string of murders" he was responsible for for the past five years. Min Yoongi had played a huge gamble when he hired Jimin all those years ago.

At first, he wasn't a hundred percent certain on whether or not he was the right pick for the job--Jimin being a former police officer and all--but he was most certainly glad that he found Jimin when he did. Yoongi constantly praised and complimented him after every job he completed successfully (which was basically all of them; Jimin never made a mistake).

Jimin was good at a job he could care less about. He hated everything about it in the beginning, but grew numb to the sting of guilt after killing someone. He taught himself how to grow apathetic and how to be cold. He found solace in the fact that the people he killed were even more deplorable than he was, and that they were responsible for the murder of and the ruined lives of innocent people. If there was anything that Jimin liked about his job, it would probably be the fact that Yoongi never asked his workers to kill an innocent. Not one.

Park Jimin would often look back at the life he had before, and sometimes question the perfect reality he had once lived.

Jimin was the no.1 graduate in the police academy and was finally on the way to becoming an officer when he had fallen in love with another young girl in his class, and had gotten engaged. The two graduated at the top of their class and remained officers in the criminal investigation team for years.

The had planned to get married soon, but not even a month into their engagement they were met with a case that required them to postpone for a later date. The case was extremely difficult, and on one of the missions she had found out something that Jimin assumed would've brought the case to a close- had he seen what she figured out, anyway. Jimin never found out what she did, because she disappeared.

No body, no blood, no fingerprints- nothing.

She was just... gone. Jimin fell into a deep depression, and was even more determined to catch whoever was responsible. Months passed, but he couldn't find anything. Yoongi had been following the same man Jimin was for a time, mainly because he had also required something valuable from the same person as well. Jimin continued his search for you for two years, but was going nowhere. Jimin had resigned his post as an officer, and it was around this time when he received a call from Min Yoongi.

Why did Yoongi appeal to Jimin? Yoongi had information, and that was something he didn't have as an officer.

...

The man who kidnapped his fiancee was his first victim, his very first kill.

"Where is yeri?" Jimin screamed, aiming his gun at the man's forehead.

The man, Rarig, stood still, slowly raising his hands to the air. He kept his breaths even and remained calm as he heard Jimin take the gun off safety.

"'Yeri?'" he repeated, feigning ignorance, "I'm afraid I have no idea she is."

Jimin was outraged. He made his way to the man so that his gun met with his forehead.

"You know damn well who she is. September 1st, 2013, at around midnight, you kidnapped her!"

Rarig smiled slowly in realization, "Ah... Her. Then that would make you Jimin, am I right? Well.... I hate to tell you this, but she's gone now. She's-how do I put this-" he tapped his upper lip, "in another place."

Jimin's hand quivered for a moment but then he strengthened his hold on the weapon. He pushed the end of the gun even deeper into Rarig's forehead, forcing him backwards. Jimin felt tears form at the edges of his eyes, but he quickly blinked them away.

"Tell me where she is! Don't give me any of this 'she's in another place' bullshit. I want to know where she is. NOW!"

"Go ahead, kill me," Rarig replied with a shrug, "shoot me. I've already done what I needed to do."

"You killed her?" Jimin asked, out of breath

"She begged me not to at first, but eventually she finally shut her mouth. But you should've heard her- 'Jimin!' 'Help me, help me, please' Ah, her cries..." Rarig smiled, "Oh, and to answer your question, In a way, I guess you could say that. I killed her."

"You bastard"

And with those two words, he finally pulled down on the trigger. The dumb smile remained on Rarig's face as the weapon was shot. Jimin was able to hear the bullet go through his skull and hit Rarig's custom portrait on the other side of the room. The impact of the bullet left a circle of red on the painting and a hole where Rarig's chest was painted.

It all happened so fast, but everything else played on in slow motion. Rarig's body falling on the marble floor and the way the sound of his body collapsing echoing throughout the room was a sound that had remained fresh in Jimin's mind ever since. Rarig's blood had sprayed onto Jimin as well, staining his hands and face.

Jimin crumpled down on the floor next to Rarig's body as tears flowed down from his eyes, washing away some of the blood, but still leaving a majority of it to dry upon his face. He knew he had lost control as soon as he heard the gun go off but by that time it was already too late. It was Rarig's smile that really set Jimin off, and that was why he felt almost no remorse for killing Rarig. Almost. Jimin had never killed anyone before, even when he was still an officer.

Why did Jimin continue? That was a question he too often asked himself and to which he wished he didn't have an answer to. The missions were.... Thrilling, and it was at when the missions were the most dangerous when he was able to forget about you. Every victim he killed he forced himself to picture as a Rarig. Yet no mission or job was exciting enough for him to erase you from his mind.

When it was all over, he was forced back into the harsh reality of the fact that you were gone, and that there was absolutely nothing he could do to bring you back.

...

Jimin sat up abruptly from his bed, cold sweat staining the back of his black t-shirt. He rubbed his eyes and pressed his fingers to his temples. It was always the same dream every night- and it was always of him killing Rarig. He wished he had someone to talk to; someone who understood his position, and he knew Yoongi wouldn't ever understand. Jimin couldn't talk to the other workers under Yoongi because he didn't know anyone else. Well, there was Jungkook, but he was always busy. Yoongi was very particular in making sure that his workers didn't know each other that well, so that he could ensure secrecy and loyalty. Jimin slowly fell back onto his sheets as he stared at the ceiling. He thought about just how many others, if any, were suffering from the same, sad fate he was.

...

Fifty miles away, staring outside the window at the stars dotting the night sky, tugging the blanket even tighter around her shoulders, you were wondering the exact same thing.
