Run. Run. Run.
It was the only word echoing in my head after leaving him behind. The forests vegetation, against me, tries to do everything it can to stop me, or slow me down, just enough so they can catch me. Torture me. End me. Shouts reach me from behind. Getting closer by the minute. I chanced a glance backwards to see where the ones claiming vengeance were. My mistake. I looked forward to feel a branch hit me on the forehead.
I moaned my head hurting. The world spinning. I shook my head feeling nauseous. I groaned. Panic was closing round my heart like icy fingers as my brain froze. My power was going but I needed it. I reached inside my head looking for it. Searching. Seeking. Nothing. Realising the loss filled me with dread and made me feel incredibly and utterly incomplete, as if a piece of me had been amputated. But then...snap. A twig had just given away someone's location. Friend or foe. I didn't care anymore.
Anyone can betray anyone.
My saying rolling in circles in my head. Reminding me of how selfish I have been. The mistakes I made. The suffering I caused. The murders I committed. Without my power, I am nothing. Mundane. Human. I looked towards the area where the sound had come from, trying to make out the shadows. I try masking my fear of vulnerability, of being helpless and powerless, and of fear itself.
However, a tremendous, horrendous brute makes its way towards me. My knees wobble with the force of holding myself together when my heart was cracking. The man in front of me who took him. Barged into our humbling abode to come and bellow. To snatch and harm. To hunt and kill.
My mask breaks as my eyes well up with tears, my mind and hear, unwillingly, reliving the memory. I fall to my knees, shaking, shriveling into myself. The footsteps stop.
"Come!" A command. An order.
I scramble up but realise who he is talking to as darkness seeps into everything, in my eye line, clouding around. Blocking us. Trapping me, like a mouse being caught in a cat's claws. No escape for me. Then a figure comes up towards the black substance looking like a silhouette in a silhouette. His shape. I gasp. I run. I sprint towards the only one I could give my heart and soul to. I run to my soul-seeker. My soulmate. Joy fills through me as he takes one step towards me.
"Abel." His name comes out as a gasp.
"Who?" he replies with no feeling in his voice at all. He looks up towards me and I stop short. I'm rooted to the spot as my own life makes his way towards me. His face instead of the one who looked at me lovingly, at times upset, seeking comfort, stares back at me confused, unknowing. Recognition nowhere in is features. Rumours, secrets run through my head.
He has changed. Not who he used to be. Slate wiped clean. Memory swipe. I looked towards the monster who was the cause, the curse, of all this and he smirked.
"Kill." One word, yet no room for question. Although being the assassin I am, I cannot fight my only love, my only friend and trustee as he makes his way in front of me, his blood stained sword raised high.
I can only surrender.
No longer feeling terrified for myself, but for the man my seeker had become.
And as the blade came down the last words that escaped my lips were:
'Four full bloods will answer the call,
To light and shadow the world must fall.
Two will determine from the rest,
And foes bear arms to the doors of death.'
