Celena wasn't one of those unlucky human beings who witnessed the Colossal Titan destroy the Wall. Instead, she was napping her life away in her vast mansion in the middle of Sina while everything else went downhill in the Wall Maria area.

But just because she wasn't one of those unfortunate souls surrounded by death, gore, and titans doesn't mean she didn't suffer at all. Of course, the Maria citizens departed with more than Celena ever will, but in her eyes, she endured similar losses.

She remembered waking up to grim faces and a depressed father. She remembered him ordering one of the maids to tell her the horrible news rather than doing it himself. She remembered her older sister coming home to the funeral, only to disappear immediately. That day, the day humanity lost Wall Maria, was the day the last string holding her family together snapped. Her father succumbed more to work. Her sister disappeared to Wall Maria knows where-- in one of the three military sectors. And her mother ended up six feet underground.

Her sweet, beautiful mother, who was visiting family members in Shiganshina only to get her own life cut short by wall debris two years ago...

Celena looked around.

She didn't know why she was there. But no one seemed to notice her either. They all had something to do which didn't involve the ginger. It had always been like this since she was born. Her mother, sister, and some friends and cousins were the only ones who gave her attention. But three-fourths of these people were gone, and she could only visit her cousins once a week...

She stood in the middle of a bustling street, observing the sea of rich people scurrying around like mice running away from a cat. The sun shone brightly above her head, and it almost convinced Celena that it was just another ordinary day. It made her nauseous.

She would have spent it with her family in the garden if it wasn't for her mother's death two years ago. Maybe her father would've joined them as well and wouldn't have transformed into the workaholic he now is, and perhaps her sister would've taken short breaks from her career as a soldier whenever she could.

A pause in thought.

No, Celena was too hopeful. Her father had barely joined those days in the garden before. And her sister... the reason she was gone was caused by Alecto, their father, himself. The older one of the two always dreamed of getting away from Sina.

I wonder what would've happened if I had gone with my mother that day... Celena thought, looking up at the clear blue sky. Her presence wouldn't have changed anything. Celena knew that she wouldn't have been helpful. On the contrary, she would have been a weak eighteen-year-old that just got in the way when Wall Maria fell-- she had gotten sick three days prior with the flu, preventing her from joining her mother in visiting family. Therefore, she would have done nothing to help.

Absolutely nothing.

She stayed still for a while, letting the nobles pass her with a few annoyed glances. But then, as her eyes met the form of a rushing cadet, an idea came to her. She scampered back to her house, a plan forming in her mind. She was going to visit her cousins, who were refuging in Wall Rose.

She will try to avenge her mother, just like her father didn't do. She may be two years late, but at least she would do it. Better late than never.

She will join the Trainees Squad and finally have something to work for again.

She would finally have a goal.

To be Continued. . .
